Today, Marriott ends the limited-time offer for the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card which is offering 100,000 Marriott points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. But, you can still earn a lot of Marriott points with the new 2020 promotion that was just released. Below, I will provide you with all the details you need to know.
New Marriott 2020 promotion
Get 2,000 bonus points on each stay, starting with your second stay — no bonus point limit.
You must register for the promotion by May 31, 2020. And you must complete your stays between March 17 and June 14, 2020.
By the way, this is the type of promotion that WalletFlo will be able to remind you about in the future so that you don’t ever forget about registering or using the promotion.
I’m not a huge fan of promotions that only kick in starting with your second stay. But sometimes they can be so lucrative that it is worth taking an unneeded first stay in order to trigger the promotion for a much more lucrative and longer second stay.
This is not the case.
You will only be getting 2000 bonus points on each stay — not even on each night. Using a WalletFlo valuation of .77 cents per point for Marriott points, 2000 bonus points comes out to $15.40.
If you had a few one night stays at a cheaper hotel around $100 per night then that could be like earning and additional 15% back on your status which is pretty good. But that is a pretty limited scenario.
If you are staying multiple nights and paying around 200 per night then the percent back offered by this promotion goes way down. For example, a $200 per night stay for three nights would come out to $600 and you would only net about a 2.5% rebate.
So this promotion is not super lucrative and I would not allow it to shape my travel plans. If you are looking for a great hotel promotion right now, Hilton has a pretty good one that allows you to earn up to 60X in some cases!
Final word
Overall, extra points are always nice but in this case there just is not a very high earning great except for in limited cases when you are making cheap and short hotel stays.

New 2019 Marriott Bonvoy Promotion (Double the Points)
Marriott Bonvoy has finally released the registration information for their new double the points promotion in 2019 called “Double Take.” I have all of the details for the new promo below and also have links for other hotel programs in case you have not signed up for their promotions.
The Offer
Earn double points on stays starting with your second stay
Marriott Bonvoy U.S. Card Members earn an exclusive bonus of 500 additional points for weekend stays starting with the first stay.
A “weekend stay” is defined as a stay that includes a Friday or Saturday night regardless of where the hotel is located.
At most Marriott properties you will earn 10 base points per dollar spent so with this promotion you could up that to 20 base points per dollar spent. If you value Marriott points at around .8 cents per point then that is like getting 16% back, which is not bad.
While this promotion is not as rewarding for the cheaper stays (like the promos some other hotel programs are offering) this promotion could be more worthwhile for expensive stays. In fact, if you had a very expensive hotel stay coming up you might consider burning one night at a cheap hotel just to get that one stay requirement out-of-the-way.
Hilton Promotion — 2,000 Bonus Points per stay; Plus 10,000 Bonus Points every 5 stays or 10 nights (whichever comes first)
Hyatt Promotion — Earn up to 1,500 Bonus Points per qualifying night starting with your second stay through May 15
Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong OZONE.

To be eligible to receive the Card Member bonus, Card Member must have an active Marriott Bonvoy member account linked to their credit card that was used to register for this promotion. Bonus points will be awarded to the member’s account up to six weeks after the promotion ends.
Final word
Since this was the very first promotion offered by the new program you may have expected a more lucrative offer. However, the ability to get double the base points on stays after your first stay + 500 points on weekend stays is still a pretty decent deal, especially if your stays are on the pricier side.

Marriott’s New 2018 Promotion [You Might Need to Read This]
Note that many people are having issues signing up for this promotion.
When they attempt to sign-up they see a message which states the following:
A Note About This Promotion
We’re sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.
The reason for this error could be:
You’re trying to access a miles promotion and are a points-earner, or vice versa
You are not eligible for this promotion
This promotion has expired
This has led a lot of people to believe that this promotion is targeted but this is not the case.
I checked with Marriott and they told me that people are having issues probably because of some technical issue that hasn’t been resolved yet. If this happens to you then in order to register, all you need to do is call Marriott and request to be enrolled in the MegaBonus promotion. You can call: 1-801-468-4000.
The actual promotion, much like the SPG promotion is pretty lackluster. For stays between January 16 and April 15 you’ll earn the following points:
2000 bonus points per stay starting with your second stay
1000 additional points for stays that include a weekend night (Friday or Saturday, but Thursday or Friday in the Middle East)
Bonus points earnings will have a cap of 50,000
Comparison with the SPG Promotion
This is how the new Marriott promotion compares with the SPG promotion.
If you spend $300 on your second hotel stay with Marriott including a weekend night, you’d earn 3,000 base points (with no status) plus 3,000 bonus points for a total of 6,000 Marriott points which comes out to $48 (at a rate of .8 cents per point) for a 16% return.
If you spend $300 on your second hotel stay with SPG including a weekend night, you’d earn 600 base points (with no status) x 2 for 1,200 points plus 500 bonus points for a total of 1,700 SPG points which comes out to $40.80 (at a rate of 2.4 cents per point) for a 13.6% return.
Final word
Obviously, the higher you go with your spend, the better the return will be for SPG compared to Marriott since the SPG bonus points are tied to how much you’re spending while Marriott offers a flat 2,000 points. SPG also does not place a cap on their promotion. Overall, both of these promotions leave a little to be desired but you should probably enroll in them anyways to take advantage of the earnings.
