Delta Sky Club HNL Lounge Review: Compact & Equipped but Dated

Over the past couple of years, I’ve really started to become a big fan of Delta Sky Clubs.

But on a recent trip to HNL, I had my doubts about the Delta Sky Club mostly because I knew it would be small and the prior lounges I visited at HNL were nothing special.

But luckily, my expectations were surpassed at this compact yet equipped lounge and in this article I’ll tell you all about the experience!

Getting to the Delta Sky Club at HNL

It was extremely easy to get to the Delta Sky Club which was no surprise because HNL is not very big.

The Delta Sky Club is located in terminal two just outside of security near Gate F1.

Delta check-in was located in lobby seven so that is the lobby that we entered through after going through the USDA check for our checked bags.

Once you make it past security, you’ll turn left and it’s very hard to miss the lounge.

Delta Sky Club HNL

Gate F1 also happened to be our gate so it made getting to the lounge and planning our exit as easy as could be.

Access for the Delta Sky Club at HNL

We had access to the Delta Sky Club HNL via our American Express Platinum Cards because we were flying Delta back to the mainland.

Specifically, we were flying Delta One Suites from HNL to SEA and then Delta First Class from SEA to PHX.

We had just arrived from Kona to HNL about four hours before our departure and the check-in agents were gracious enough to check our bags for us.

However, the lounge strictly stuck to the three hour prior to flight window and that meant that we would have to kill some time before being able to enter the lounge. That was annoying but it’s probably a good thing they have the policy because it is such a small lounge.

Experiencing the lounge

When we were finally able to get into the lounge, the agents were very friendly and professional.

They made sure to tell us about all of the features of the lounge and invited us to send our own Hawaiian postcards (with postage paid for by Delta). That, to me, was a very nice and fitting touch for travelers departing Hawaii and we sent a couple of them out to family members.

Delta Sky Club HNL

The lounge had a pretty minimal amount of traffic which made it very relaxing at least for the first hour or so.

It would pick up and get a little bit busy but it never got too crazy and died down towards the end of our visit. That was nice because for small lounges like this, I always worry about the lounge becoming an unenjoyable madhouse.

There were a hand full of different seating areas and we decided to grab a couple of chairs just on the other side of the bar. Some of the seating does have counters with outlets so look out for those if you need to stay powered up.

Most of the seating options offered in the lounge were the same or similar and consisted of typical airport lounge chairs. Comfortable yet a little boring by today’s lounge standards. You can get a feel for the different seating areas with some of the photos below.

I liked the Hawaiian artwork on display and also liked that they had a profile of the artist below each piece.

Delta Sky Club HNL

Aside from the entire lounge feeling pretty dated, I did like the relaxing color scheme found throughout the lounge with teal/mint accents contrasted against woodgrain. Not necessarily the most impressive decor for sure, but I appreciated that they at least had done something a little bit different.

The drinks and dining

I went over to check out the dining options and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many different hot food items along with some tasty sandwiches.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect in this lounge since our last lounge experience at HNL definitely was nothing special.

But this exceeded my expectations with a diverse range of food options raging from Hawaiian to Japanese, and also offering your basic items like ham and cheese sandwiches and even comfort foods like chicken noodle soup. I’d say it was a pretty solid food line up.

If you were just looking for snacks, they did have a stand with Lays potato chips.

And another station with desserts which included some type of pudding dish, oatmeal raisin cookies, and a small freezer with some sort of special ice cream.

As for drinks, the lounge has a small bar with a very friendly bartender who also was pretty efficient at serving up drinks. You never saw the line get a long at all.

Delta Sky Club HNL drinks

The mai tai drinks, complete with decorative flower and umbrella, seemed to be a major hit for many people. I just went with my usual sparkling water but Brad had one last mai tai before we departed Hawaii.

There’s also a good lineup of different teas with honey and an easy to use hot water dispenser.

Iced tea, lemonade, and ice water were also available.

Delta Sky Club HNL drinks

If you want some soda water they had a small soda water dispenser and if you’re in the mood for some coffee they had two espresso machines.

Near the food station, they had a pretty long row of two person dining tables along with some seats with tables found along the wall.

In the back corner of the lounge there was a TV area with a large screen playing ESPN. This appeared to be the busiest area of the lounge during our stay.

Delta Sky Club HNL

The lounge had a rack of literature to check out and I decided to try out a travel magazine to pass some time.

It had been a while since I had sat down with a magazine and I actually enjoyed going through it and learned quite a bit about some cool spots on different islands of Hawaii.

I definitely think I’m going to return to magazine reading as it was something I used to always do at airports and when flying but at some point I just dropped the habit.

There’s a small workstation area with a few chairs, some outlets, and a printer station. If you have something that you need to print, you can send it to the printer via email by just following the instructions.

In this back corner of the lounge there is another TV area but it’s a good amount smaller than the other section. It was also much quieter over here.

One thing that I thought was interesting about the lounge is that they came around with a cart serving mini cannolis and some type of special alcoholic tea. That’s not something I typically see in an airport lounge, especially a small one, so I thought it was pretty cool and once again a nice touch by Delta.

The bathroom

While some Delta Sky Clubs on the larger side have some pretty amazing (and huge) bathrooms, the men’s bathroom here is quite small with one urinal and one stall. I know this is a smaller lounge but only having one stall is under equipped to me.

Final word

The Delta Sky Club at HNL is pretty compact and yes it is dated.

However, the staff is great and the dining and drink options were solid and plentiful. The lounge also provided a few special touches here and there that made the experience feel a bit more premium.

Overall, I really liked the lounge and would prefer visiting this over the Plumeria lounges any day but it will be nice if the lounge can get some renovation love in the near future.

Plaza Premium Lounges Guide (Prices & Locations) [2023]

You may have heard of Plaza Premium Lounges before because they are in a lot of different countries and come attached to several different membership programs. But what exactly are these lounges, where can you find them, and are these worth your time?

In this article, I will break down everything you need to know about Plaza Premium Lounges including things like how to get access, all of the locations, and what you can expect when you visit.

What are Plaza Premium Lounges?

Plaza Premium Lounges are lounges that are part of the Plaza Premium Group lounge network and they are located all over the world. You will find a lot of these lounges in Australia, Asia, and the Middle East, though you can also find some in Europe and South America.

How do you get access to Plaza Premium lounges?

There are quite a few ways that you can get access to a Plaza Premium Lounge.

Tip: Use the free app WalletFlo to help you travel the world for free by finding the best travel credit cards and promotions!

Purchasing a day pass

One option to get access to a Plaza Premium Lounge is to simply purchase a day pass.

These can be purchased/reserved online or you can just purchase a day pass at the check-in desk. To book online simply go to the main website and then search for your desired lounge and after you click on that lounge you will see an option to reserve a spot.

Not all lounges will allow you to book online and keep in mind that there could be capacity restraints if a lounge is particularly busy at that time.

The cost of your day pass will depend on the lounge, type of visit, and also on how long you plan on sticking around. Typically, for the type of visit you can choose from a standard lounge visit, a shower visit, or a private resting experience.

A Plaza Premium lounge at Hong Kong charges the following rates for a lounge visit:

  • Two hours: US$82
  • Five hours: US$110

A lounge at London Heathrow charged $58 for a two hour visit and $26 for a shower visit but some lounges in Asia may only charge $8 for a shower visit. So the cost of your visit will depend largely on the location and duration of your visit.

Some of these lounges have more to offer and you can purchase a full private rest experience.

This will allow you the opportunity to take a shower, enjoy some dining, and get some real rest. With a pass like this, you could spend up to nine hours in the lounge so it is essentially a mini-hotel stay.

The prices for these experiences are going to be much more expensive. For example, the same lounge in Hong Kong referenced above will charge you US$252 for this experience for 9 hours. (Other private resting experiences may be cheaper if you are only using them for 3 to 6 hours.)

Priority Pass Select membership

You can also get access to some Plaza Premium Lounges with your Priority Pass Select membership. Priority Pass is a much larger network of airport lounges that you can find across the world and their lounge network totals over 1,200 lounges. Some lounges in the Priority Pass Select network are also Plaza Premium lounge so there is overlap between the two.

If you are interested in obtaining a Priority Pass Select membership I would suggest getting a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve which grants access to lounges and credits to the airport restaurants that are in the Priority Pass Select restaurant network. With a Priority Pass Select membership, you will typically be able to bring two guests along with you but it depends on the type of card you have and also on any capacity restraints from the lounge.

American Express Platinum Card & other cards

If you hold the American Express Platinum Card you can also get access to Plaza Premium Lounges (along with access to many other different types of lounges). Platinum card members may bring up to 1 companion into Plaza Premium Lounges as complimentary guests.

There is some access overlap because the Platinum Card also provides you with Priority Pass Select membership. However, there are some Plaza Premium Lounges that do not offer access to Priority Pass members and with the Platinum Card sometimes you can reportedly get more extensive access and better benefits such as more free food and drinks.

Other cards may also provide access like those from Capital One.

Flight tickets

If you are flying a premium cabin on a certain airline, then you may be given admission to the lounge based on your airfare. For example, I was once given access to a Plaza Premium lounge when I was flying business class on Thai Airways.

Do you have to pay for children?

You can check the policy for bringing children to a lounge by clicking on the lounge through the main website. But the children policy that you will often encounter is that children between ages 2 to 11 are charged 70% of the adult rates and children under 2 years old have complimentary access.

What can you expect in a Plaza Premium lounge?

In my personal experience, I found Plaza Premium Lounges to be pretty high-quality. They didn’t quite blow me away but they are not a bad place to relax in.

The types of amenities that you will encounter will just depend on the type of lounge that you visit. It’s very easy to see what amenities each lounge has because when you click on that lounge, you will see a breakdown of icons displaying all of the amenities offered. It will look something like this:

Food and beverages

Most of these lounges will have an area with food and beverages, including hot food. If you are only interested in vegetarian options many lounges will accommodate those.

Alcohol/bars

Most Plaza Premium airport lounges will have an area dedicated for alcoholic drinks. Some even might have draught beer.

Just note that if you are traveling through certain parts of the world like Saudi Arabia then you will not find a Plaza Premium lounge with alcohol due to the laws in that country.

Seating areas

All of these lounges should have comfortable seating areas where you can relax and enjoy winding down between flights. Many of the seating areas are semi-private so you can experience a little bit of privacy as you get work done and await your flight.

Flight information

Just about any Plaza Premium lounge that you visit should have a display for flight information. This means that you will see a screen with all of the current flight numbers and departure times displayed so that you can easily check on the status of your departure. Just note that some lounges might announce when a flight is changed or delayed but most of the time it is completely on you to keep up with your flight times.

Wi-fi

You should expect to receive complimentary Wi-Fi at most Plaza Premium airport lounges. The speed may vary depending on the airport but in my experience the speed was very good and I was able to get work done without any issues.

Charging stations

Most lounges will come equipped with the charging stations so you can keep your laptop and electronics ready to go for your travels. Sometimes these might be built into the furniture so be on the lookout for them.

Spa and massage stations

A minority of these lounges will have special spa and massage stations such as the Plaza Premium Lounge (Near Gate 35, Departures) in Hong Kong. Often times a spa or massage session may be very short such as 10 minutes and could be included in an admission package.

Something to keep in mind about massages in airport lounges is that these are subject to availability and often times can fill up quickly. So if you are interested in getting some type of spa session then you need to reserve that as quickly as you can.

Showers

Not all Plaza Premium lounges will have showers but some will. Again, showers can be in hot demand sometimes so as soon as you arrive at a lounge you should inquire about availability. Typically, you will be given a set amount that you can use in the shower such as 30 minutes.

24 hours?

Some Plaza Premium Lounges will be open 24 hours. In certain regions, you may find 24 hour lounges more common like in places like India. Other times, you will be facing a more standard open time where the lounge opens early in the morning and closes late at night, possibly around midnight. Often times the open and close hours depend on the flight schedules at that airport.

Departures and arrivals?

Plaza Premium Lounges have both departures and arrivals lounges. A departure lounge is a lounge that you visit while you are waiting for your flight to depart and an arrival lounge is a lounge where you visit upon landing.

Most of the lounges will be departure lounges but there are some Plaza Premium arrival lounges. For example, London Heathrow Airport has several different arrivals lounges. You might think that arrival lounges will be cheaper to visit but that is not necessarily the case. For example, the arrivals lounge at London Heathrow charges $52 for admission good for two hours.

Final word

As you can tell, there are a lot of Plaza Premium Lounges located all across the globe. These are for the most part pretty high-quality lounges that offer an array of amenities that you might need and there are multiple ways to access them including a couple of ways via credit cards. Personally I’ve had good experiences at these lounges and would not hesitate to give them a visit again.

Alaska Lounges Guide (Access Rules and Locations) [2023]

Alaska Airlines is one of my favorite airlines and is a great brand focused largely on the West Coast.

They offer a small network of lounges but allow you to tap into a much broader network of partner lounges as well.

In this comprehensive article, I will tell you everything you need to know about Alaska Lounges including things like how to get access, discounts, and special rules for pets.

What are Alaska Lounges?

Alaska Lounges are the official airport lounges of Alaska Airlines. They are primarily located on the West Coast of the US but there is one lounge found at JFK.

Alaska Lounges are pretty solid airport lounges where you can find complimentary food (mostly light snacks) as well as local draft beer, West Coast wines, and house spirits.

They also provide espresso and looseleaf tea handcrafted by an Alaska Lounge barista. If you are visiting for breakfast, be sure to check out the iconic pancake machine.

How to get access to Alaska Lounges

  • Alaska Lounge Membership
  • Via elite status benefits
  • First class tickets
  • Purchasing day passes

Alaska Lounge membership

An Alaska Lounge membership is the standard way to get access to all Alaska Lounge locations and over 95 partner lounges (all partner lounges are listed below).

You will receive a membership card (which can also be pulled up on your mobile device) and you will need to show that along with a same-day ticket boarding pass on any carrier along with a government-issued photo ID to get access.

Members will be able to bring in immediate family members which include partners and children under the age of 21 or up to two guests.

Members are required to accompany their family and guests at all times within the lounge.

The standard price for an Alaska Lounge membership is $500 per year.

However, if you have elite status with Alaska Airlines, you can receive a discount on the price of your lounge membership.

Elite status

If you are an MVP Gold 75K member, you will receive four complimentary Alaska lounge day passes in addition to other perks like avoiding baggage fees.

First class passengers

If you are traveling on a paid first class or first class award ticket on a flight operated by Alaska Airlines, you can have access to Alaska Lounges on the day of your flight.

The eligible fares include: A, D, F, P, or I class of service.

Keep in mind that you won’t get access to partner airline lounges this way.

Many airlines like United and American don’t allow you to have lounge access when flying first class domestically. Instead, you must be flying internationally so it is nice to see Alaska open its doors to first class passengers.

One last thing to note is that if you were upgraded to first class — whether complimentary, paid, or using miles — you will not get access to the Alaska Lounge.

Remember, as a first class passenger you will also get other perks like priority boarding.

Day pass

You can purchase a day pass for $60 per person at any Alaska lounge located at San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), and New York (JFK).

Day passes are subject to the following restrictions:

  • Day passes are valid for 24 hours and only in the location where purchased. The following exceptions apply:
    • Day passes sold or distributed before June 13, 2022
    • Future use or additional guest day passes for Lounge Members
    • Day passes for Active Duty military
    • Gold 75K passes
  • The passes must be used in conjunction with the same day boarding pass on any airline.
  • One day pass is required per person but children younger than two can accompany an adult without a day pass.
  • Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult which could include unaccompanied minors.
  • Sometimes due to capacity day passes may not be available and access can be restricted.

The passes are nonrefundable but if you purchase a membership within 30 days of purchasing your day pass they will reimburse you for the cost of your day pass.

There are a few ways to get discounts on day passes.

If you have the Alaska Airlines Visa Card, you can get 50% off a day pass but the purchase must be made on the Visa card by the cardholder at the lounge.

Also, these passes must be instantly redeemed and you do not have one year to use them.

Other features of the Alaska Airlines Visa Card include:

  • 3X on Alaska Airlines purchases
  • 1X on all other purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Companion fare
  • Free checked bag
  • In-flight discount
  • $75 annual fee

Travel credit cards

A lot of the best travel credit cards offer credits that could be used to cover the cost of a day pass.

For example, you could use the American Express Gold Card and take advantage of a $100 airline credit to cover the cost of two day passes.

Alaska Lounge members

Alaska Lounge members can purchase a day pass for their traveling companions or for guests and family not traveling with them at a reduced rate of $30 per person.

Children under two years of age can accompany an adult for no additional cost.

Active duty US military

If you are an active duty US military member traveling on orders, you can get a free day pass.

You will need to be able to verify your active status, show orders, and also be ticketed to fly on an Alaska flight departing within three hours.

Alaska Lounge rules

Just like other airlines, Alaska Airlines has a published number of rules that they expect guests to abide by. Here are a few of the rules you may want to be aware of before visiting:

Proper attire

Management reserves the right to deny entrance to a guest that is not dressed in proper attire.

Typically, you won’t have to worry about anything unless you are exhibiting bad hygiene, are showing a lot of skin, etc. Business casual is always a great way to go but not necessary.

No outside food or alcohol

Most lounges do not permit outside food or alcohol so this is no surprise. If you are just bringing in small snacks that probably will not be an issue.

No food or drinks to go

The lounge does not want guests to leave with food, beverages, or magazines found within the lounge. The exception is if you purchase a made to order meal, tea, or coffee.

Pets

Service animals and quiet pets in carry-on kennels are allowed in the lounge.

However, animals are not allowed on any furniture or allowed to eat or drink from the lounge service ware.

If your pet becomes disruptive an agent may ask you to leave.

Smoking

You are not allowed to smoke, chew tobacco, or use electronics cigarettes in the lounge.

Children

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and must “behave in a manner conducive to the quiet atmosphere of the Alaska lounge.”

Intoxication

Guests who appear to be intoxicated may be denied access to the lounge.

There is also a three drink limit per guest when it comes to alcoholic beverages.

Other lounge memberships

If you are interested in a lounge membership that is more broad and that can get you into a wider network of airport lounges you might want to look into cards that offer Priority Pass Select.

Or, if you are like me and you want to go after the best airport lounge access, then you should look into picking up the Amex Platinum Card.

The Platinum Card is a premium card that is loaded with benefits and some of the top benefits include access to airport lounges like Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass Lounges, Delta SkyClubs, and more.

Final word

Overall, Alaska Lounges offer a variety of ways to get access and even methods to get a hefty 50% discount on day passes.

While the lounge network is mostly limited to the West Coast, it’s nice being able to access a wider network of partner lounges.

Personally, I would prefer to rely on a different type of lounge membership via my Platinum Card but for an Alaska frequent flyer, this membership could make a lot of sense.

If you’ve read any articles about The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ve probably heard about Centurion Lounge access, which is one of the most valuable benefits of the Platinum Card. But what exactly are Amex Centurion Lounges and why should you care about them?

What are Amex Centurion Lounges?

Centurion Lounges are American Express airport lounges known for being some of the nicest and well-equipped lounges found in the US. You can find them at many major airports in the US and across the globe but to get access you’ll need to hold an eligible card like The Platinum Card® from American Express.

Centurion Lounge
The Las Vegas Amex Centurion Lounge — the first Centurion Lounge opened in 2013.

How can I get access to Amex Centurion Lounges?

In order to gain access to a Centurion Lounge, you’ll need to have one of the following Amex cards:

Authorized users with a Centurion or Platinum Card get access as well, which is a great deal because you can add up to three authorized users to the Platinum Card for just $175 per year (rates & fees).

Currently, you cannot purchase a membership for the Centurion Lounge.

**Note: Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Card Members are only eligible to visit The Centurion Lounge when flying on a same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight and eligible lounges only include all Centurion Lounges located in the United States, Hong Kong, and London.

All information about the Centurion® Card and Corporate Platinum Card® has been collected independently by UponArriving.

The Platinum Card® from American Express is the most common way to get Centurion Lounge access for most UponArriving readers.

The awesome thing about the Platinum is that you also get access to other airport lounges like:

  • Priority Pass Select Lounges*
  • Delta Sky Clubs
  • Airspace Lounges
  • Escape Lounges
  • Plaza Premium Lounges
  • Select Lufthansa Lounges

In my opinion, with so many quality options it’s the clear #1 card for airport lounge access. But it also stands out with additional features like:

*Enrollment is required for these benefits.

Centurion Lounge at PHX.

Arrival times and connections

With the Platinum Card, you can only visit the Centurion Lounge if you have a departing flight or are arriving for a connecting flight (same-day round-trip itineraries are not considered connecting flights.)

Also, you can only get in within 3 hours of the departure time stated on your boarding pass. In my experience, you can get in more than three hours before your flight if it is delayed but that’s probably a YMMV situation.

If your flight departs after the lounge closes for the day, they will admit you as early as 3 hours prior to the lounge closing.

Centurion® Card holders have more flexibility with access.

For example, they can enter beyond three hours and even enter when arriving at the airport. As long as they have a same-day boarding pass and access to the terminal they can get in.

Getting into the lounge

Once you show up to the Centurion Lounge, you must present the Centurion agent with:

  • Your American Express card
  • A boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation for same-day travel on any carrier
  • A government-issued ID

During busy hours, there may be a wait list. In that case, you’ll put your phone number down and then get a text message whenever the lounge is ready for you to enter.

Sometimes the wait may only be 5 to 10 minutes but other times you could be waiting over 30 minutes.

It doesn’t matter what carrier you are flying with or if you’re flying first class or basic economy, as long as you have your American Express card with you and your boarding pass and ID, you can get access to the lounge.

Tip: If you don’t have your physical card you can still probably get in with mobile check-in which can be done through the American Express app.

Centurion® Card holders also have special privileges for access. They often can get in even when the lounge is at capacity and sometimes they even have special reserved tables or even special rooms they can access.

All information about the Centurion® Card and Corporate Platinum Card® has been collected independently by UponArriving.

What airports have Amex Centurion Lounges?

Currently, you can find Amex Centurion Lounges at the following locations below. As you can see, they typically open around 5am to 7am and stay open until late but none of them in the US are open 24 hours.

Almost all lounges are located after security, but keep in mind that if you’re coming from another terminal like at MIA, you might have to re-enter security to get back to your terminal after accessing the lounge.

Here are all of the current locations for Amex Centurion Lounges:

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
    • Location: After clearing TSA in TBIT, walk towards the bridge to the Great Hall. Once there, immediately turn left and enter the elevator lobby. Take elevator from level four to level two where the lounge is straight ahead

    • Location: Terminal B, one level above security, right before the Eastern Concourse pedestrian bridge

Future airports:

  • Reagan National Airport (DCA)

International Amex Centurion Lounges

In the past, most international Centurion lounges were not on par with what you come to find in the US.

I remember visiting the lounge in Sydney, Australia, and being extremely underwhelmed with what was a very crowded and stuffed lounge experience.

However, American Express recently announced that they were upgrading these lounges and so in the future they should be of a much higher quality.

One thing to keep in mind about these international lounges for now is that the guest policy differs for each lounge.

Centurion Lounge guest policy

Over the past few years, the guest policy has changed several times so it’s always good to brush up on the latest policy.

Currently, the guest policy depends on what type of credit card you are using for entry:

  • Platinum Cardmembers may bring in two guests for free.
  • Delta SkyMiles Reserve Cardmembers may bring up to two guests at a per-visit rate of $50 per person, per location.
  • Centurion Cardmembers may enter with up to two guests or immediate family (spouse or domestic partner, and children under 18) at no additional charge.

Platinum Card and Centurion Members may purchase a day-pass for any additional guests for $50. This day pass will be good at any Centurion Lounge on the same day as long as the guest is still accompanied by the Card Member.

Just remember that the guest policy is based on your status as a cardmember and not cardholder.

This means that even if you have both the personal and business version of the Platinum Card, you still are only limited to two guests and not four.

New guest policy update for 2023:

Beginning February 1, 2023, U.S. Platinum Card and U.S. Business Platinum Card Members will be charged a $50 fee for each guest (or $30 for children aged 2 through 17, with proof of age).

U.S. Platinum Card and U.S. Business Platinum Card Members will qualify to bring in two free guests if they spend $75,000 on their card between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 and in each calendar year thereafter.

The new guest fee is just another reason why you should consider adding someone as an authorized user to your Platinum Card. That way, they will still be able to get through those blue doors for free.

Remember, you can add up to three for only $175 total per year (rates & fees).

This will get them free centurion lounge access and also Delta Sky Club access when flying Delta.

What amenities are offered by Centurion Lounges?

You can find the following features at some Centurion Lounges:

  • Member Services Professionals to assist with you with various needs
  • Dining developed in partnership with renowned local chefs
  • Signature cocktails, premium spirits, and curated wines
  • High-speed Wi-Fi
  • Semi-private workspaces
  • Computer bar with printer/fax/copier
  • TVs, magazines and newspapers
  • Spa services*
  • Wine tasting area*
  • Conference room*
  • Shower suites*
  • Family room*
  • Luggage lockers*

*Available in select locations.

Decor and vibe

Aside from the perks discussed above, I think the Centurion Lounges are bit unique because they’re just simply nicer than a lot of other domestic lounges.

Aesthetically speaking, I find the design, decor, and furniture more visually appealing and often times more comfortable than other standard airport lounges in the US.

And who could forget about the amazing scent….

As long as the lounge is not overcrowded, it feels like one of the best places to be in an airport.

IAH Centurion Lounge.
IAH Centurion Lounge.

Service

The service in Centurion Lounges is also great, too.

The staff members are usually exceptionally friendly, enthusiastic, and professional and will attentively serve you drinks and take requests.

They can also assist you with your travel itinerary and even help you make restaurant reservations. If you travel frequently, the staff will quickly become acquaintances with you.

That’s definitely not something you get in every airport lounge.

There’s also a certain “exclusivity factor” since you need to hold a premium Amex card to get in, although with the crowding issues at some of these Centurion Lounges, you may not necessarily feel so “exclusive.”

Dining and drinks

Centurion Lounges offer free dining and drinks, including alcoholic beverages.

For the dining, Amex teams up with renowned local chefs to deliver its cuisine.

For example, at DFW the menu features cuisine designed by James Beard Award-winning chef Dean Fearing and consists of locally-inspired dishes like Texas Migas.

However, if I’m being honest, the food in the Centurion Lounge can be a bit hit or miss for me.

There’s usually some decent options to choose from and sometimes they really hit the spot like the perfectly seasoned pot roast dish I once had at IAH.

But sometimes there’s just not a lot of food that I care for.

Centurion Lounges usually serve both healthy and “less healthy” dining options (I’ve seen fried chicken served up), so it’s not that difficult to “be good” at this lounge.

Overall, the food is usually acceptable to good and well beyond the finger food or snacks that you often find in some other US lounges.

It’s just not always knock-it-out-of-the-park delicious and I think they could step it up a little bit.

As for drinks, Centurion Lounges definitely know what they’re doing.

You’ll find premium spirits and curated wines, and if you’re into cocktails you can look into ordering the specialty cocktails that each lounge serves up.

One popular Centurion Lounge drink is the “Blue Door,” a name inspired by the lounge’s iconic doors.

It’s made with Johnnie Walker Black Label Blended Scotch Whiskey, Myer’s Rum, Herbal Liqueur, Lemon Juice, and Anise-Flavored Liqueur.

Unlike a lot of other airport lounges, you don’t have to pay for these signature cocktails.

Some of the newer lounges may offer special experiences like wine tasting.

You can usually get tea and coffee, too. Also, they usually have a container with some kind of infused water.

Tip: If you want to bring a little bit of the Centurion Lounge flavor to your home you can check out these recipes.

Nap rooms and relaxation

Another nice perk that some lounges like the one in Houston (IAH) have is a place to rest and take a nap on comfy chaise lounge chairs.

The lounge at IAH has also incorporated wellness into the lounge and has a new room offering free access to Calm content and a health and wellness menu with health-conscious beverage options, including hot Calm Relax Tea and Calm Focus Tea, coconut water, and other options.

Amex Centurion Lounges

Seating and work stations

If you’re in the mood to just sit in a comfortable chair, you’ll find those in the lounge, too.

Many of the lounges also have cubbies as seen below that offer you a semi-private experience.

In addition, you can usually find monitors displaying flight information in various parts of the lounge so you can stay updated on your flight status.

Assuming you can find an open workstation, it’s a great place to get work done with high-speed Wi-Fi, semi-private workspaces, and computer bars with a printer/fax/copier. Conference rooms might be available at some lounges as well.

Amex Centurion Lounges FAQ

Final word

American Express Centurion Lounges are some of the nicest domestic lounges that you’ll probably come across. There are more popping up each year and now it looks like they are expanding overseas, which is great to see.

I personally put a lot of value in my frequent visits to The Centurion Lounge at IAH and at PHX, since they give me a comfortable working space, quality wifi, and complimentary drinks and food.

Wow: Delta Sky Club LAX Terminal 3 Review

After being in the works for four years, The Delta Sky Club at LAX Terminal 3 recently opened in April 2022. It’s a beautiful and spacious lounge that is fully equipped with multiple bars, a Sky Deck, showers, and a lot more.

Check out what the experience is all about in the review below and if you ever go to visit let us know what you think!

Getting to the lounge

The Delta Sky Club at LAX Terminal 3 is located on the departures level between T2 and T3. Once you get close, you really can’t miss it.

The new lounge was part of an even larger project that involved re-doing Delta’s Terminal 3 in a substantial way.

Highlights of the new Terminal 3 include:

  • A centralized headhouse that consolidates check-in, security and baggage claim
  • 32 self-serve kiosks and 46 check-in positions
  • A 250-foot digital backwall featuring helpful info like Delta Sky Club volume
  • Five baggage claim carousels
  • Seven new security lanes

If you’re coming from Terminal 3 you’ll be able to experience the new terminal but because we were on a connection going through Terminal 2 we didn’t really have that opportunity.

Note: When the Delta Sky Way at LAX project is complete in 2023, Terminals 2 and 3 will be a consolidated.

Tip: Use WalletFlo for all your credit card needs. It’s free and will help you optimize your rewards and savings!

Delta Sky Club LAX entrance

Access

We gained access to the lounge since we were flying Delta and we had Amex Platinum cards but there are various ways you can gain access to Delta Sky Clubs.

As soon as we entered the lounge I noticed there were five self-service kiosk stations with a few staff members attending them and it occurred to me that this would be an automated entry.

I absolutely hope other lounges head in this direction because it just makes things so much easier.

Delta Sky Club LAX kiosks

Because Brad and I were together they asked if we had separate entry which we did based on us each having a Platinum Card so we checked in separately.

All we had to do was scan our boarding pass and swipe our cards and then that was it.

Access granted.

I did see there was an option to add a guest so if that’s what you need to do it looks like that will be easy to accomplish on the kiosk.

After enjoying a little 21st-century kiosk automation, we made our way up the escalator in this stunning lobby, where fixtures designed to resemble waves rolling in the ocean hang from the ceiling and immediately impress.

Delta Sky Club LAX escalators

Exploring the lounge

As soon as we made our way past the wood-screened area, which marks the official entrance to the lounge, I could tell this was going to be one of the more memorable legacy carrier lounge visits I’ve had in recent memory.

Delta Sky Club LAX lobby

The swankiness is undeniable.

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

The lounge was spacious and had a steady flow of traffic but did not ever feel overcrowded.

That’s no surprise considering that it’s over 30,000 square feet — one of the largest in the Delta network.

Delta Sky Club LAX food area

We took a right upon entering and made our way towards the corner of the lounge where we had some nice runway views while also being close to the food and drink area.

Before grubbing out, I made my rounds around the lounge to check everything out and was continuously impressed by the design and layout.

There’s a lot of seating options and no shortage of power outlets and USB ports making it extremely easy to get comfortable and charge your devices at the same time.

You’ll definitely have no excuse for your device going dead at any point.

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

Floor to (nearly) ceiling windows line the lounge offering great runway views for many guests.

If you’re unable to secure a view looking out, the views looking in to this swanky interior can also delight. It didn’t take long for this lounge to win me over.

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

I liked the area with the little privacy pods for getting work done or talking on the phone.

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

These cozy little phone booths could be a great place to focus if the lounge gets a bit busy. Inside each one you can find a power outlet and USB port. Sensors will trigger the light when you open the door.

These are perfect for people like me who rely a lot on speech to text dictation. And hopefully this will attract some of those people that can’t help themselves to using speakerphone in the lounge…

Delta Sky Club LAX privacy booth

For those trying to get work done out in the open there’s a beautiful wooden work table for eight. Semi-private cushioned cubbies resembling a nice NFL locker room surround it.

A printer station can be found in the corner.

This is right by where you’ll find the entrance to the bathroom (more on the amazing bathrooms below).

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

Just beyond the work table area, there is a bar area which once again has plenty of outlets built-in.

There’s also a large media wall that was playing ESPN.

You’ll find comfortable seating options in front of it that give off a very fitting cinema vibe.

Near the media wall a flamboyant little nook with a mosaic mural featuring glass tiles imported from Italy, known as the “Coffee Grotto,” will certainly catch your eye.

Delta Sky Club LAX coffee grotto

It’s a nod to the golden age of Hollywood and it seemed to be popular because it stayed busy for almost the entire time. Eventually, after several passes, I got a shot with only a few people in it.

Delta Sky Club LAX coffee grotto

Also in this part of the lounge was another seating area partitioned off with some Hollywood Hills inspired design.

Delta Sky Club LAX seating

Just like the other side of the lounge you also have great runway views along with the backdrop of mountains. Catching LA on a pretty clear evening was a nice finishing touch to this trip.

Delta Sky Club LAX views of Delta planes

Later on during our visit, we made our way over to this side because our gate was located right next to it so we could watch our plane come in from where we were seated.

Always love a lounge visit where you can keep an eye on your gate and it makes it that much sweeter that you only have a short walk to get there.

One final thing I meant to mention was that you can find help desks near the entrance of the lounge along with kiosks.

Dining

This Sky Club had some high-quality dining options.

To kick off the dining experience, first I made my way to the drink section where I found a lot of different options.

Delta Sky Club LAX beverage station

They had regular Starbucks brewed coffee along with decaf and a hot water dispenser.

Delta Sky Club LAX coffee station

Different types of Harney & Sons tea packets were available including green, mint, and earl grey.

If you want more flavors, head over to the drink station on the other side of the lounge and you can find different types like chamomile and several others.

That’s also where you can find the stations for making your own espressos and cappuccinos.

Delta Sky Club LAX tea station

They also had different types of infused water including some with fresh strawberries. Infused water always sounds so good and refreshing to me… until I drink it. I think it’s that watered-down taste that just makes me want to put down the glass.

Delta Sky Club LAX infused water station

Sparkling water is very different story, however.

For sparkling water enthusiasts like myself they had a Bevi machine, although you could also choose Aha from the Coke Freestyle machine right next to it.

Next to the drink station, you could find a variety of snacks and potato chips.

Delta Sky Club LAX snacks

After figuring out the drink situation, it was time to check out the real food.

The lounge features local chefs on a quarterly basis via the Local Flavor program so they are constantly mixing up something special.

I started by checking out the different types of sandwiches which included vegetarian options.

Delta Sky Club LAX sandwiches

The main attraction for myself and most people that I saw had to have been the juicy brisket.

As someone from Texas, I have high standards for such a dish and it did not disappoint at all. Not only was it tasty but it also was fresh and just kind of blew my mind how good it was. Definitely did not expect that.

Delta Sky Club LAX brisket

Other dining options included spicy tofu and a Thai vegan broth along with tomato basil soup.

For sides they had Ruby Rice, steamed broccoli, and a variety of vegetables and dishes like coleslaw. Bread rolls were also plentiful.

My measuring stick for judging the quality of food in an airport lounge is: can you get full only eating items you truly enjoy?

In this case, the lounge passed this test with flying colors.

Delta Sky Club LAX vegetables with ranch dip

They also had a meat and cheese selection which looked pretty appetizing.

Delta Sky Club LAX meat and cheese station

For dessert, they provided an apple tart dish and multiple types of cookies which are the only things I didn’t truly care for.

But that also probably had to do with the fact that we just had an amazing chocolate chip cookie on board Delta First Class flying from Houston (IAH) to LAX.

So I think I was a little bit over the limit with sweets at that point.

The other side of the lounge also had a buffet center where you could put together your food items. I think it was a little bit smaller but it was also a lot less busy than the one we were sitting by.

Delta Sky Club LAX food station

At the end of this food area there is a hidden candy corner where you can find glass jars full of different types of candies like flavored Tootsie Rolls and other types of “classic” wrapped candies like taffy.

Delta Sky Club LAX candy bar

Bar

There are two main bars in the lounge: one indoors and one on the Sky Deck.

Delta Sky Club LAX bar

The bar inside is located right in the middle of the lounge and it’s pretty much on the opposite side from the one on the Sky Deck.

Delta Sky Club LAX bar

The servers at both bars were very good and I was really happy to have such great service.

The bar will serve you up complimentary drinks although you will need to pay if you want one of the signature cocktails or premium alcoholic beverages.

The complimentary beverages include:

Wine

  • Sparkling Brut
  • Chardonnay
  • Pinot Grigio
  • Rose´
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Pinot Noir

Beers & Seltzer

  • Michelob Ultra Draft
  • Regional Craft
  • Michelob Ultra Cucumber Lime Seltzer
  • Samuel Adams Just the Haze IPA NA

Spirits & Liqueurs

  • New Amsterdam Vodka
  • Damrak Gin
  • Plantation 3 Stars Rum
  • Camarena Silver Tequila
  • Old Forester 86 Proof Bourbon
  • Dewar’s Scotch
  • Kahlua
  • Saint Brendan’s Irish Cream

As for the signature cocktails, you’re gonna be spending around $9 to $12 for most drinks.

If you want premium spirits then they have a variety of those including vodkas, gin, rum, tequila, whiskey, scotch, and cognac.

Prices are typically around $7 to $10 but can get much more expensive for some of the higher end products like Johnny Walker Blue Label.

Brad decided to try one of the signature cocktails called the Flower District Margarita. A tasty drink and the St-Germain elderflower liqueur put a nice twist on a margarita.

Delta Sky Club LAX flower district margarita

You can also take advantage of a pretty broad selection of champagne, wine, and beer.

You’ll have to shell out some cash (~$5) for premium craft or imported beers such as Blue Moon or Dos Equis.

Unfortunately, the bar is still without Dom Perignon so you can’t currently use your miles for a glass or bottle. I’m really hoping that that option comes back soon.

Later on, we spent some time out on the Sky Deck which was an awesome experience.

Because I have almost exclusively flown United, American, and Southwest I’ve only had one prior visit to a Delta Sky Club at PHX but it did not have a Sky Deck.

For the longest time I’ve been wanting to experience one and I don’t think there could be a better place to do so than the one in LAX considering how awesome it feels outside especially during the evenings.

It’s not a surprise that it remains open all year round.

Delta Sky Club LAX Sky Deck

On the Sky Deck, you could find different types of seating from bar seats to comfortable chairs.

Delta Sky Club LAX Sky Deck

A lot of the seats looking out towards the runway were taken outside which was no surprise given how great it felt. However, there were plenty of open seats along the bar.

(If you don’t see a bartender at the bar just approach the bar and one will probably come out to serve you from the inside.)

Delta Sky Club LAX Sky Deck bar

Bathroom

The bathrooms are to the left after you enter the lounge and you’ll find them in a beautiful hallway that also is home to the showers.

Delta Sky Club LAX bathrooms

The men’s bathroom was huge with quality and very private stalls.

Delta Sky Club LAX mens bathroom

It was also clean and smelled good so it was about as good as you will be able to get.

Delta Sky Club LAX mens bathroom

I didn’t get a chance to check out the showers but based on the status of the bathrooms and all of the photos I’ve seen, I’m sure those were top notch.

Final word

As a travel blogger, I’m constantly researching experiences before we ever give them a shot and so rarely am I ever surprised.

But on this occasion, this was our final connection after traveling for roughly 3 weeks and I did not do my homework before heading to the lounge.

That meant that the entire experience was a true surprise and I was unexpectedly blown away which is something that does not happen very often.

Our First Class flight with Delta was also an enjoyable flight and so I’m really becoming a pretty big Delta fan.

American Airlines Lounge (Admirals Clubs) Access Guide [2022]

Lounge access can truly be a lifesaver in certain situations as it can provide a much needed spot to refresh and relax. But sometimes the lounge access policies can be a little bit confusing because there are so many different ways to get access.

In this article, I will break down the American Airlines lounge access policies which include both Flagship Lounges and Admirals Clubs. I’ll cover everything including prices, guest policies, and also entrance into partner lounges.

What are Admirals Clubs?

Admirals Clubs are the standard airport lounges for American Airlines and you can find them all around the globe (keep reading below for a full list of locations).

In these lounges, you may find comfortable places to relax, free food and drink, showers, business meeting rooms, kids room, and sometimes other amenities as well.

In my experience Admirals Clubs are pretty nice but I would not put them on the same level as Amex Centurion Lounges.

I found Admirals Clubs to be pretty basic in terms of what they offer for free but they still get the job done. For example, for breakfast you might find Oikos and Chobanil yogurt along with a selection of fruits including pineapple, cantaloupe, melon, and mixed grapes, and possibly hard-boiled eggs.

If you do want hot food items you can pay for those and you can also pay for premium drinks.  For example, a Bloody Mary may cost you $10 and an imported beer may cost $8.

If you are interested in what the full experience is like, you can read my full review of the Admirals Club at Houston IAH. (Just note that that is one of the smaller AA lounges and there are definitely more equipped Admirals Club lounges like those at DFW.)

What are Flagship Lounges?

Flagship lounges are the premier lounges offered by American Airlines. These are only found in a handful of airports and offer a more premium dining and drinking experience.

For example, you can find dishes created in partnership with the James Beard Foundation, a premier American culinary organization. The admission policy for Flagship lounges is a little different but there is some overlap and I will go over the access policy in detail below.

What is the Admirals Club access policy?

There are several different ways that you can get access to an Admirals Club. For example, you could get access based on a purchased lounge membership, the class of your airline ticket, or certain types of elite status. I will break all of those down in detail below.

Before jumping into the different ways to get admission, it’s worth noting that as of November 2019 American Airlines made changes to their admission policy. Now, you must have a boarding pass for same-day travel on an “eligible flight” to enter a lounge.

An “eligible flight” would include any departing or arriving flight that is marketed or operated by American, any oneworld airline, or Alaska Airlines.

Different types of Admirals Club admission types

Below I will go into detail about all the different types of admission types for an Admirals Club lounge.

One thing that you need to remember is that the policies for things like documents needed for entry and guest entry can differ based on the type of admission you are granted. So remember to not assume that the guest policies will be the same each time you visit a lounge.

Admirals Club members

The first way to get access to an American Airlines airport lounge is to have an Admirals Club membership. These memberships come in different forms and you might have an annual membership or even a lifetime membership.

One of the easiest ways to get an Admirals Club membership is to get the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard. This card has some great perks that would interest anybody looking to frequently fly with American Airlines, such as: 2X on purchases on American Airlines, free baggage, and priority boarding privileges.

If you are a primary cardholder on this card you will get a complementary Admirals Club membership.

You might also get an Admirals Club membership if you are a ConciergeKey or AirPass member with Admirals Club privileges.

If you are okay with spending some cash you can also purchase an Admirals Club membership. The price of your membership will be based on the type of elite status you have and also on whether or not you are purchasing an individual membership or a group membership.

Here are the prices. You should keep in mind that the annual fee for the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard is only $450 so if you get approved for that card you can save a lot of money on your membership.

Lounges that offer access:

If you have an Admirals Club membership then these are the lounges that you will have access to:

  • Domestic and international Admirals Club locations
  • All Alaska Airlines Lounges (when departing on flights marketed and operated by American, Alaska Airlines or Virgin America)
  • All Qantas Clubs (when departing on same-day flights operated by Qantas, or operated by American out of Auckland, New Zealand or Sydney, Australia)
  • Select partner lounges operated by third parties (on same-day flights operated by American)

What you need to enter:

In order to be admitted into the lounge, you will need the following items:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Admirals Club membership card or Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard or AAdvantage elite status card
  • A boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight. (Same-day priority verification cards will be accepted.)

What is the guest policy?

You will be allowed to bring in immediate family members which would include your spouse, domestic partner and/or children under 18 or up to 2 guests. It’s worth noting that guests must be accompanied by the eligible member and present boarding passes for same-day travel on American or a partner airline.

Eligible first class and business class passengers

If you are flying first class or business class then you might get lounge access but it depends on your route.

If you are flying domestically, you can get lounge access if you are flying on certain premium routes like the following:

  • New York (JFK) and Los Angeles (LAX)
  • JFK and San Francisco (SFO)

Note that if you are flying between other premium routes, you will only get lounge access if you are flying on the right type of aircraft.

  • LAX and Boston (BOS) – traveling on A321T aircraft only
  • LAX and Miami (MIA) – traveling on Boeing 777-300 aircraft only

If you are flying on an international route then you will get lounge access for the following routes:

Flights between the U.S. and:

  • Asia
  • Australia
  • Central America
  • Europe
  • Mexico City (MEX)
  • New Zealand
  • South America

It’s worth reiterating that for Mexico you only get lounge access if flying between the US and Mexico City. I have personally flown American Airlines to other Mexican destinations and unsuccessfully persuaded an agent to allow me access. :/

If you meet the criteria above, you can also get access to the American Flagship lounges.

What you need to enter:

  • First or Business boarding pass
  • Government-issued photo ID

What is the guest policy?

You will be able to bring in one guest with you and children over two count as a guest. Also, any guest accompanying the customer must be traveling on a departing oneworld flight.

American Airlines first class.

Qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum

If you hold elite status with American Airlines you can get lounge access as long as you hold Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Platinum and you are flying on the following routes:

Flights between the U.S. and:

  • Asia
  • Australia
  • Central America
  • Europe
  • Mexico City (MEX)
  • New Zealand
  • South America

If you meet the criteria above, you can also get access to the American Flagship lounges.

What you need to enter:

  • First or Business boarding pass
  • Government-issued photo ID

What is the guest policy?

You will be able to bring in one guest with you and children over two count as a guest. Also, any guest accompanying the customer must be traveling on a departing oneworld flight.

Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire

If you hold elite status with the oneworld alliance you can also get access. This includes customers on all departing flights marketed and operated by American or a oneworld airline (regardless of cabin).

AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum customers traveling solely on North American itineraries don’t qualify.

If you meet the criteria above, you can also get access to the American Flagship lounges.

What you need to enter:

  • Qualifying boarding pass with oneworld Frequent Flyer number
  • Government-issued photo ID

What is the guest policy?

You will be able to bring in one guest with you and children over two count as a guest. Also, any guest accompanying the customer must be traveling on a departing oneworld flight.

Admirals Club One-Day Pass customers

Another route that you can go is to purchase a one day pass at domestic and international Admirals Club locations for $59.

The cool thing about a day pass is that you should be able to use it at multiple Admirals Club lounges if you have a connection. For example, I recently purchased a day pass and I was able to use the lounge in Houston (IAH) and Dallas (DFW) on the same day.

Another cool thing is that the day pass purchases usually trigger airline incidental credits. So if you have a card like the American Express Gold Card that has a $100 airline credit, then you can essentially get into the lounge for free.

Purchasing a day pass can be tricky sometimes because they will only sell you a day pass if they are not at capacity. So if you are flying during busy hours then you might want to have a back up plan.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite does not provide you with a complimentary day pass to lounges. Unlike the United Explorer Card which gives you an annual free day pass for two people, that is not one of the perks of the Platinum Select.

What you need to enter:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • One-Day Pass
  • A boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight

What is the guest policy?

You can bring up to three children that are under 18. Children must be accompanied by the adult day-pass holder and present boarding passes for same-day travel on American or a partner airline.

Citi AAdvantage Executive Card authorized users

If you are an authorized user for the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard you will not get a complete Admirals Club membership but you will still get entry into Admirals Club lounges.

One of the coolest things about this card is that you can add up to 10 authorized users for free which means that you can give free access to up to 10 individuals which is pretty crazy. Authorized users still get guest access so it is an extremely lucrative deal.

As an authorized user, you will get access to domestic and international Admirals Club locations.

What you need to enter:

  • Valid Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • A boarding pass for same-day travel on an eligible flight

An important requirement to remember here is that you will need to have your valid Executive card on you when visiting a lounge in order to get in. Since you won’t have an official Admirals Club membership, that card is the only ticket to your admission.

What is the guest policy?

You will be allowed to bring in immediate family members which would include your spouse, domestic partner and/or children under 18 or up to 2 guests. It’s worth noting that guests must be accompanied by the eligible member and present boarding passes for same-day travel on American or a partner airline.

Admirals Club locations

As mentioned earlier, you can find Admirals Clubs all across the globe. Here are the current locations:

  • Atlanta, GA (ATL)
  • Austin, TX (AUS)
  • Boston, MA (BOS)

Parter lounges

You can also get access to partner lounges which again can be found all around the world. The list of partner lounges is pretty long but I will give a rundown of the locations that you can find partner lounges in.

One very important thing to note with partner lounges is that sometimes you might have to have a same-day departure on an American Airlines operated flight to get access. Or if you are flying on certain airlines like Qantas, you may need to show a same-day boarding pass for a Qantas operated flight or an American Airlines marketed flight operated by Qantas.

So just because you see a lounge listed below, don’t assume you’ll get access and instead be sure to check about the requirements for that specific lounge and in particular what type of boarding pass you will need. You should be able to find the requirements here.

Flagship lounge access

There is some overlap with the Admirals Club lounge access. One of the biggest differences is that you don’t get access to Flagship lounges if you have an Admirals Club membership or a Citi Executive Card. But here is a rundown of the people who qualify for Flagship lounge entry.

  • Eligible first class and business class passengers
  • Qualifying AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum
  • oneworld Emerald and Sapphire
  • ConciergeKey

You can read more about the Flagship lounges here.

Flagship lounge locations

As mentioned above, the locations for Flagship lounges are much more limited.

  • Chicago (ORD)
    • Terminal 3 Concourse H/K
    • Daily: 5:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW)
    • Terminal D Between gates D21 and D22

Overall, the lounge access policy for Admirals Club and Flagship lounges is pretty clear-cut. If you are looking for an easy way to get access, I would recommend looking to the Citibank Executive Card since that is a great way to save money and give free access to authorized users.

Escape Lounges Guide: (Cost and Locations) [2022]

Airport lounges are some of the best places to visit before departing on your journey (or even between flights). They offer great spots to relax and perhaps have a drink or two (or even a meal) amid sometimes hectic traveling times.

There are quite a few different types of airport lounges but one brand of airport lounges you might want to check out are the Escape Lounges.

In this article, I will tell you everything you need to know about Escape Lounges including how to get entry, what to expect, and also provide you a full list of all of the locations in the US and also in the UK.

What are Escape Lounges?

Escape Lounges are airport lounges located around the UK and in certain US states; they are usually found at smaller airports although they are popping up at some larger airports as well.

These lounges offer complimentary food, drinks (including alcoholic beverages), high-speed Wi-Fi, charging stations, and areas to relax and enjoy some comfortable space away from the crowds.

Escape Lounges originated in Manchester in the UK but Escape Lounges expanded to the US in 2015. Since then, we have seen more and more popping up and they have even joined the American Express Global Lounge Collection (more on that later).

How do you get access to Escape Lounges?

American Express Platinum Card

One of the easiest ways to get access is with the American Express Platinum Card. With the Platinum Card, you can get access for yourself and for up to two guests. All you have to do is show them your card when you enter and entry will be granted.

The Platinum Card is easily the best credit card for airport lounge access.

In addition to access to Escape Lounges, you will get access to the noteworthy Amex Centurion Lounges which are some of the nicest lounges located in the US. More and more of these are popping up around the country so be sure to keep up with the latest lounges in your area.

In addition to Amex Centurion Lounges, you will get access to Priority Pass Select lounges. Priority Pass has over 1,200 airport lounges located all around the globe.

There has been some overlap with Escape Lounges in the past so that is something to keep an eye out for. For example, The BDL and MSP lounges were part of the Priority Pass network but MSP was dropped, so now you would gain access to that lounge via your Platinum Card instead of Priority Pass.

The only drawback with the Priority Pass membership is that you don’t get credit for the restaurants that are in the Priority Pass lounge network like you do with other premium cards. So that’s just something to consider.

You can also get access to the Delta Sky Club Lounges whenever you are flying Delta. In addition, there are a number of other lounges that you can access with the Platinum and you can read about those here.

Purchasing day passes

Regardless of the airline that you are flying on or the class of your airfare, you can purchase a day pass to get admission into an Escape Lounge. There are two different ways you can obtain a day pass. You can purchase a walk up pass or you can book online.

Walk up pass

These lounges allow you to purchase a pass as a walk up guest, which basically means you are a guest that did not make prior reservations. If you choose to enter as a walk up guest, the entry price will be more expensive. For example, in the US you will likely be paying $45 and in the UK you will likely be paying £30.

By the way if you are a AAA member or are a member of the military, you should inquire about discounts.

Book online

You can book your passes online and purchase them before you ever arrive at the airport. If you are worried about lounges being at capacity when you visit, this is the smartest way to go since you can guarantee yourself a spot at a lounge.

This is also how you can save money.

If you purchase online, you will save five US dollars and if you purchase online for a UK lounge you will save £5. Just make sure that you book 24 hours prior to your visit.

It is very easy to go through the booking process. Simply select a date and a time that you plan on entering and then proceed with payment.

If you need to make a change to your booking, you may have to pay additional fees.

For example, if you needed to make a change to your visit date or perhaps a flight and you made that change at least 48 hours prior to your arrival, you may be charged a $10 fee for the change. In that case, you would be issued a full refund.

If you make changes outside the 48 hour notice window, you will NOT be issued a refund.

Also, if for some reason, you are not able to attend the booking that you made, then you will not be entitled to a refund.

Other forms of membership

You can also get access to the lounges with other types of memberships. For example, the following memberships may qualify you for entry: DragonPass, Priority Pass, Lounge Club, Lounge Key, Diner’s Club International and TAV.

What type of complimentary food and drinks can you get?

You will receive complimentary food and drinks when you visit Escape Lounges, but what type of food can you expect?

When it comes to breakfast, you’ll see things like pastries, muffins, boiled eggs, cereals, and yogurts. For other parts of the day such as lunch you may find some light snacks, sandwiches, salads, and even pies and soups.

I would advise to check the individual lounge page to see what type of foods are offered at that particular lounge (you can find links to the lounges below). For many lounges, you will be able to view both the food and drink menu online.

But to give you an idea of what to expect, here’s a look at the food menu at Minneapolis St. Paul.

For the breakfast menu which is served from 4:30 AM to 10:30 AM, you will see some common items like muffins, grits, yogurt, but there are also some things like smoked salmon quiche that you don’t always find at other lounges.

The lunch and dinner menu which runs from 10:30 AM to 8 PM, has some solid choices like roast beef, meatballs, and a kale chicken caesar salad. Don’t forget that they also have stations open all day where you can pick up things like boiled eggs, hummus, cookies, and other snacks like trail mix.

In addition to the food, you can also get complementary tea, coffee, soft drinks, and even alcoholic drinks at some lounges.

Here’s a look at some of the free drinks you can expect at MSP.

Notice that you can select from a menu of wines, spirits, and beer. You’ll find a selection of sparkling wine, white wine, and red wine including Emerald Bay Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

As for spirits, you’ll have a broad selection of vodka, whiskey, tequila, gin, rum, scotch, and others. And then for beer you can find both domestic and imported with beers like Coors light and Corona.

There will also be premium drinks available, though those will be offered at an additional cost.

Here’s a look at what the premium drink menu might look like. Prices range from about $5 to $9, depending on what you are interested in. You will see more recognizable names under the premium spirits menu like Grey Goose, Patron, Don Julio, Captain Morgan, Hennessy, and others.

Although I don’t drink myself, I’ve heard good things about the specialty cocktails at these lounges.

If you are in need of gluten-free items, ask a staff member upon arriving and they may be able to hook you up with something. You can also find out details about the local chefs and get some culinary insight on the lounge’s webpage.

Escape Lounge FAQ

Can you bring in kids?

Kids are welcome in the lounges.

Children under the age of 23 months receive complimentary entry to Escape Lounges US locations. Children 24 months and older are required to pay the adult entry price.

Passengers wishing to bring children into the lounge must email the lounge or uscustomersupport@escapelounges.com to inform them of the location, date, time, number of children and ages of children.

How does group access work?

If you are traveling with a large group, then you should know that groups larger than six people are not permitted in the lounge without prior authorization. If you would like to request authorization for a large group simply send an email to: bdl@escapelounges.com.

Keep in mind that the lounge cannot guarantee that your entire group can sit together and space is often on a first come, first serve basis in these lounges.

Just note that the group cancellation policy works a little bit different from the normal cancellation policy. If you have bookings of six or more people, you will need to provide seven or more days notice before the date of arrival to get a free refund and you will still be subject to a $10 cancellation fee per guest. You will not receive a refund for group bookings that provide less than seven days notice.

Is there a dress code?

The lounges state that there is a dress code to adhere to smart casual or business attire at all times and they reserve the right to refuse entry to any person who may be dressed in a way that they deem inappropriate.

Interestingly, shorts above the knee and sports jerseys are not permitted or any other clothing that they think will offend other guests. They also state that men’s shoulders should be covered at all times, so no tank tops.

Lounges often don’t enforce dress codes too strictly so as long as you look presentable, you probably don’t have anything to worry about.

But it never hurts to comply with dress codes so that you don’t have to worry about anything and if you are worried about not getting access, then you can always call ahead and inquire about how strictly the dress code is enforced in practice.

How long can I stay in the lounge?

The amount of time you can spend in the lounge depends on the lounge you were visiting and the location.

For lounges in the US, the website states:

Your booking entitles you to a single visit for the entire calendar day booked in the Escape Lounges from the time of booking or walk-in until the closing time of the lounge.

But for lounges in the UK the website states:

Your Booking entitles you to a single visit in the Escape Lounge of up to 3 hours, from the booked time of arrival at the Lounge.

So just make sure that you are mindful of the differences between the different locations.

Are animals allowed?

You are not allowed to bring in animals or pets of any kind. However the exception is if you are bringing in service animals per ADA regulations.

Can I get intoxicated?

It is okay to let loose a little in the lounge and have a few drinks before your flight. In fact, that is sort of the whole point of lounges for a lot of people. They want to create an inviting place to feel relaxed before hopping on board and traveling.

But there is a fine line between having a good time and getting inebriated. The terms state, “[a]ny Guest whose behavior is disruptive, disrespectful, or inappropriate for any other reason, in our sole discretion, may be removed from the Lounge.” So basically, just act with common sense and decency and you will have nothing to worry about.

Final word

Escape Lounges are great airport lounges and they are expanding around the US and the UK. They definitely add some nice value to the Platinum Card lounge access network and can be a great break from the crowds at some of these less trafficked airports.

Delta Sky Club Guide: (Access & List of Locations) [2022]

If you have walked through any major airport in the USA, you probably noticed a room behind closed doors with a sign reading “Delta Sky Club.” This may have intrigued you and rightfully so because the Delta Sky Club has everything you might need to relax, appease your appetite, and rehydrate before or after a flight.

In this article, I will cover everything you need to know about the Delta Sky Club access policy, lounge features, membership benefits, rules, and a full list of Delta Sky Club locations. And finally, I’ll wrap it up and cover some Delta Sky Club frequently asked questions (FAQs).

What is the Delta Sky Club?

The Sky Club is Delta’s inhouse made lounge that is exclusively for passengers flying Delta Airlines and their partners. It offers a variety of seating and workspaces along with food, beverages, showers, bathrooms, and a private Delta help desk that allows members and guests to handle any questions related to Delta.

In the sections below, I will go into detail of what features and amenities you can find in a Delta Sky Club.

Delta Sky Club access policy

Traditionally, people with a Sky Club membership and elites would be the only ones able to access Delta Sky Clubs. Luckily, you can access Sky Clubs through other means like credit cards.

Credit Cards

It is easier than ever to get free access into the Delta Sky Club and in my opinion, these credit cards represent greater value than the paid membership as you, the cardholder, can gain more benefits than free access to the Delta Sky Club.

The Platinum Card by American Express

  • 5x points on flights booked directly with airlines and American Express Travel
  • 5x points on hotels booked with American Express Travel
  • $200 airline incidentals credit
  • $179 CLEAR credit
  • $200 Hotel credit
  • $300 Equinox credit
  • $240 Entertainment credit
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club access (when flying Delta)
  • Complimentary Priority Pass Lounge membership
  • Complimentary Centurion Lounge access
  • Complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge access
  • Complimentary Escape Lounge access
  • Fine Hotels & Resorts Program
  • Gold elite status with Marriott and Hilton
  • $695 annual fee (not waived)

The Business Platinum Card by American Express

  • 5x points on flights & hotels booked with American Express Travel
  • $200 airline incidentals credit
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club access (when flying Delta)
  • Complimentary Priority Pass Lounge membership
  • Complimentary Centurion Lounge access
  • Complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge access
  • Complimentary Escape Lounge access
  • Fine Hotels & Resorts Program
  • Gold elite status with Marriott and Hilton
  • $595 annual fee (not waived)
  • Get 50% more points on purchases of $5k or more and use points for flights and get 35% Points Back

Delta Reserve Credit Card

  • 2 miles per dollar on Delta purchases
  • Priority boarding
  • First checked bag free (learn more)
  • 20% off in-flight purchases
  • Annual fee $550 (not waived)
  • Annual 1-time first class, Comfort+ or main cabin companion certificate
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club access
  • Annual miles and MQMs after spend requirement

Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

  • 2 miles per dollar on Delta purchases
  • Priority boarding
  • First checked bag free
  • 20% off in-flight purchases
  • Annual fee $550 (not waived)
  • Annual 1-time first class, Comfort+ or main cabin companion certificate
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club access
  • Annual miles and MQMs after spend requirement

As you can see, all 4 cards above offer complimentary Delta Sky Club access. However, you should note, these cards only give complimentary access to the cardholder and you would have to pay $39 for each guest.

Clearly, these cards represent greater value than the paid membership that I write more about below. The equivalent membership is $545 annually. That means if you hold any of these cards the annual fee is basically the Sky Club membership fee.

Remember, if you’re active in the military, you can get your American Express card annual fee waived.

The good thing about these cards is that each one holds benefits that outweigh the Sky Club membership benefits. Both Platinum cards give you access to 1300+ lounges worldwide and the annual airline incidental credit that is up to $200. The Delta Reserve Credit Cards also offer annual 1-time companion certificate for first class, Comfort+ or main cabin.

If you hold any of the other Delta co-branded credit cards like the Delta Gold or Delta Platinum, you can still access the Sky Club for $39 per guest per visit.

I personally have The Platinum Card by American Express and find it a very valuable card partly because of Sky Club access when I fly domestic flights as my status only entitles me to Sky Club access while flying internationally. Plus, I love all the other benefits like the collection of lounges I can access and the 5x on airfare.

Delta One

If you’re seated in Delta One (Delta’s name for their international business class product) you have access to Delta Sky Club. This also includes Delta One transcontinental flights.

You’re even entitled Sky Club access when you have connecting flights in your itinerary. An example would be, I am flying to Johannesburg, South Africa from Atlanta in Delta One. However, my origin city is Detroit and I am flying first class between Detroit and Atlanta. As I am connecting onto Delta One, I can access the Sky Clubs in Detroit, even though my flight from Detroit is only a domestic first class flight.

And yes, first class marketed flights on Delta will not get complimentary Sky Club access. It’s only if you are connecting onto a Delta One or SkyTeam partner premium cabin flight that entitles you Sky Club access. It must be marketed as Delta One.

Flying SkyTeam international first or business class

Just like Delta One tickets, flying a SkyTeam partner airline, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia, Gol, and WestJet seated in business or first class (first class as in an international first class product) you are entitled to Sky Club access, even on your connecting Delta flights.

International travel includes: Customers traveling to/from Europe, Asia, South America, Central America, Africa, Canada and Mexico (excludes travel to/from the Carribean, Guam, Palau and Saipan.)

Elite status

Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion members are entitled to Delta Sky Club access when flying Delta on an international itinerary. Even on the domestic legs of your international itinerary, you are still entitled to Sky Club access.

SkyTeam Elite Plus status holders are able to access Sky Clubs as well when traveling on an international itinerary. Therefore, if I have Garuda Indonesia Platinum status I will be able to access Sky Clubs flying Delta or any other SkyTeam airline as my Garuda Indonesia Platinum status includes SkyTeam Elite Plus status as well.

Sky Club Membership

Currently, there are two memberships that are being sold by Delta right now.

  • Individual membership: one-year is $545; 54,500 SkyMiles; or $50 for 12 monthly installments
  • Executive membership: one-year is $845; 84,500 SkyMiles; or $75 for 12 monthly installments

You can also get these as a choice benefit when you become a Diamond Medallion.

Individual membership entitles only you access to the lounge. You cannot bring guests for free but can bring two guests or a spouse/domestic partner and children under 21 for $39 per guest per club visit.

Executive membership entitles you and up to two guests access to the lounge. Extra guests would be $39 per guest per club visit.

Since January 1, 2019, members can only access the Sky Club when flying Delta or partner airlines. The membership only entitles you access to Sky Clubs and not partner lounges, except the SkyTeam Lounge at London-Heathrow as the membership entitles you access to that lounge.

Delta Sky Club features and amenities

Some Delta Sky Clubs do offer unique amenities and features that make them truly unique. From the various types of seating with outlets almost at every seat to the bar that is playing music and TVs, you can work and come down to earth in locally influenced Sky Clubs.

Seating and workspaces

Sky Clubs will have various seats that let you sit back and relax or get your work done. Most seats will offer outlets at or nearby the seat. Sometimes you can find cushy chairs that have a mini table or cubical like seating.

There will even be communal seating, high top seating, basically cafe-like seating. Plus, for the folks that want to relax at the bar, Sky Clubs that offer a bar will have bar seating.

Delta Sky Club Sky Deck

As an AvGeek, I die for any type of lounge that has outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the apron and runway. New York John F. Kennedy Terminal 4 Delta Sky Club and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Concourse F Delta Sky Club both offer Sky Decks with amazing apron and runway views and sounds making it an amazing hangout place, especially if you want to get some sun.

JFK T4 Sky Club Sky Deck

Delta Sky Club drinks

Delta Sky Clubs will also have free-flowing alcohol and soft drinks. Sometimes the Sky Club will offer ‘THE BAR’ with a free and paid menu or a self-service bar. There is a range of Coca-Cola products, juice, coffee, tea, liquor, beer, wine, and of course my favorite drink of them all, water.

LGA C28 Sky Club sparkling wine

Delta Sky Club food

Most Sky Clubs will offer snacks and light buffet stocked with a salad bar, hummus with pita chips, and soups bar able to make your own soup like Pho. At Delta hubs, it’s easy to fill up with hot foods like ravioli, pasta, steamed vegetables, Spanish rice, hash, roasted chicken, etc. (Once I was at a Sky Club that served hot dogs.)

Each Sky Club will offer something that is inspired by that region, as southern Sky Clubs will be influenced by southern cooking.

DTW C Sky Club buffet

Showers and bathrooms

In the hygiene department, you can find private shower rooms at select Sky Clubs that are stocked with Malin+Goetz amenities to smell fresh.

Each Sky Club will offer bathrooms within the club that is also stocked with Malin+Goetz hand soap and lotion.

Help desk

Located near the entrance, you will find a Delta help desk that is able to handle anything Delta related. These desks are really helpful as they won’t get terribly congested during a bad storm as people scramble to change their flights.

WiFi

While WiFi is common throughout airports, it’s always nice to connect to WiFi that is somewhat more exclusive and typically faster than your average airport WiFi.

Delta Sky Club rules

For a full list of Sky Club rules, please read here. In this section, I will highlight the most relevant ones.

Access to the Delta concourse

  • Member must have access to the Delta concourse in order to use the Club at that location.
  • No gate passes will be issued.

  • Business meetings, conference calls and job applicant interviews are not permitted in any Delta Sky Club.

Food and drink

  • Food and alcoholic beverages may not be brought into any Delta Sky Club.
  • Food and beverages may not be removed from any Delta Sky Club.

Day passes

  • As of November 15, 2018, the sale of the $59/5,000 Single Visit Passes has been discontinued.

  • Delta Sky Club pet policy mirrors the Carry-On Pet Policy. Pets permitted in Delta Sky Club include dogs, cats and household birds.
  • Monkeys, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, reptiles, frogs, mice, rats, sugar gliders and spiders are not permitted.
  • Pets must be at least 8 weeks old and must remain inside the kennel with the door secured at all times.
  • Guidelines for service and emotional support animals.

Smoking

  • Smoking, chewing tobacco, smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarette use is not permitted in any Delta Sky Club. (Including on the Sky Deck)

As you probably noticed, most of these are common sense and subjective. Maybe the best rule would be, don’t be like this guy.

Like anything related to air travel, you might have more questions. I made an FAQ section answering questions that you might have about Delta Sky Clubs that weren’t answered above. (If you have any other questions, please drop them down in the comments below.)

Delta Sky Club FAQ

Can I buy Delta Sky Club day passes?

As of November 15, 2018, the sale of the $59/5,000 Single Visit Passes has been discontinued. However, if you hold an American Express co-branded Delta card, you can buy day passes for $39 per visit.

Can military personnel access Delta Sky Club for free?

Unforutally active or veteran military personnel cannot get complimentary Delta Sky Club access.

However, if you’re an active military officer, you can access other airline lounges. You can read more about the benefits you receive from Delta and other airlines for serving our country here.

How old do you have to be to access a Delta Sky Club?

Must be 21 years of age to access Clubs with a self-service bar, unless accompanied by a responsible, supervising adult who is also a Club member. Local age restrictions apply in non-US locations. For locations with a full-service bar, you only have to be 18 years of age.

What type of alcohol is free in a Delta Sky Club?

A range of alcoholic beverages is free in Delta Sky Clubs. There will be your selection of wine, sparkling wine, liquor, beer, and at full-service bars, there are cocktails available too.

If you don’t like alcohol, there is still a range of other drinks like Coca-Cola branded soft drinks, juices, teas, coffee, milk, and water.

Can I access the Delta Sky Club after I land?

Yes, you can access the Delta Sky Club after your flight flying Delta. I have done it personally and works great when I am connecting onto a non-Delta flight.

How much is a bottle of Dom Perignon Brut Champagne?

A 750ml bottle of Dom Perignon Brut Champagne is $250 or 12,500 SkyMiles. Which in my eyes is a good valuation as it makes your miles worth 2 cents per mile.

(Sometimes, you can get a bottle of Dom for $200 or 10,000 SkyMiles.)

Dom Perignon is also served on airlines like Singapore and Emirates in first class

Final word

The Delta Sky Club is one of my favorite domestic lounges that are currently being updated throughout the system. While Delta has no flagship lounge, like the United Polaris Lounge or American Airlines Flagship Lounge, Delta makes a more consistent decent domestic lounge that isn’t bad and better than other membership lounges like Admiral Clubs and United Clubs.

United Airlines Club Access Rules (Polaris, Star Alliance) [2022]

Whether you’re getting ready to embark on a long-haul journey across the Pacific or just looking to pass a few hours by on a long layover, sometimes there’s nothing better than being able to escape the crowds and enjoy some nice lounge access prior to a flight.

Unfortunately, sometimes the rules and policies for lounge access can be quite confusing.

In this article, I will walk you through the United Club access policy for getting entry into the United Club airport lounges.

I’ll tell you everything you need to know about your access privileges based on things like your ticket fare (including Polaris), elite and Star Alliance status, and credit card memberships and also discuss some of the rules.

What is the United Club access policy?

Getting access to United Club lounges is not always straightforward. Whether or not you will have access, will depend on the following factors:

  • Club membership and credit card membership
  • Class of service
  • Destination
  • Which airline you’re flying
  • Elite status

I’ll discuss each of these in detail below and provide you with some insight on when you can expect to receive United Club lounge access.

United Club Membership and credit card membership

Three popular ways to get access to these lounges are the following:

United Club membership

With a United Club membership, you’ll get access for yourself and two adults or one adult and dependent children under 21 years of age.

You can purchase a United Club membership on an annual basis for you or for you and a spouse. The price in cash or miles will depend on your level of elite status with United. Below are the prices that you can’t expect to pay.

MileagePlus statusAnnual membership
General member$650 or 85,000 miles
Premier Silver$650 or 85,000 miles
Premier Gold$650 or 85,000 miles
Premier Platinum$650 or 85,000 miles
Premier 1K$550 or 75,000 miles
  • A copy of the marriage certificate or an affidavit of marriage or spouse equivalency is required to obtain a membership card for a spouse or domestic partner with a different last name
  • Memberships are open to anyone 18 or older.

United Club access via credit cards

You can get access to United Clubs if you or a cardholder of the United Club Infinite Card.

This is a premium credit card that comes with a $525 annual fee which is pricey but it’s $125 cheaper than the United Club membership available to the public.

In addition to getting United Club Membership, this card also offers some other valuable perks like getting your first and second checked bags for free and United Premier Access benefits.

If you fly United a lot it’s not a bad card to go with although I still think the Amex Platinum is the better overall credit card for lounge access.

The United Explorer Card is the more popular United credit card option in my opinion. This card comes with a much lower annual fee of only $95 and it offers you two one time passes for United club access. It also provides you with some great perks like a free checked bag and priority boarding.

One-time pass

United Club one-time passes are available for purchase for $59 at club locations or through the United app. This pass will allow one person one-time access to any United Club location.

If you join within 30 days of your one-time pass purchase, United may waive the price of your initiation fee, a $50 value.

Effective November 1, 2019: United Club customers, including members and their guests, and one-time pass holders will need to provide a same-day boarding pass for travel on United, Star Alliance or a contracted partner for entry into all United Club locations.

Class of service/airlines

Your lounge access will often depend on the type of class that you are flying and on what kind of airline you’re flying.

Generally speaking, you will have broader lounge privileges when you are flying on United Airlines versus when you are flying on a Star Alliance partner.

United Polaris business class

Customers in United Polaris business class may access United Club locations at departure, connecting, and arrival airports along their eligible same-day routing.

No guests are allowed.

United business class

If you are just flying standard United business class, you get the same access at departure, connecting and arrival airports along their eligible same-day routing but you need to be traveling internationally.

So, for example, if you are flying from Houston to Chicago in United business class you will not get access to a United Club lounge on the basis of your class of service.

No guests are allowed.

Related: United Domestic First Class Review (What to Expect)

Premium transcontinental flights

The exception to this domestic rule is when flying on premium transcontinental flights.

Customers on premium transcontinental flights may only access United Club locations at the origin and destination of their premium transcontinental flight.

Premium transcontinental flights are those between airports like San Francisco and New York or Los Angeles and New York.

United business class on the Dreamliner (787).

First class and business class on Star alliance partners

When you are flying first class or business class on a Star Alliance partner you will not get the same lounge privileges.

The biggest difference is that you will only get to lounge access from the airport that you are departing from on your long-haul flight.

So, for example, let’s say you were flying economy on United from Houston (IAH) to San Francisco (SFO) and then business class on EVA Air from SFO to Taipei (TPE). In that case you would only get lounge access at SFO based on your fare class.

However, if all of your flights were on United Airlines, then you would have gotten lounge access in Houston as well as San Francisco.

One major difference between business class and first class on Star Alliance partners is that first class passengers can bring along one guest and business class passengers are NOT allowed to bring along one guest.

Tip: You might also be interested in Priority Pass airport lounge access.

Business class on Singapore Airlines would get you United Club lounge access from the airport that you are departing from.

Star Alliance Gold status

Star Alliance Gold status is one of the best ways to get access to United Club Lounges.

If you have Star Alliance Gold status with an airline other than United and have a same-day boarding pass for travel on a flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline, you can get access for you and a guest when departing from that same same airport.

(The guest must also be traveling on a flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline and departing from the same airport.)

If you have Star Alliance Gold status with United and have a same-day boarding pass for travel on an international flight operated by a Star Alliance member airline, you can get access for you and a guest even when departing an airport different from that of the United Club location being entered.

So if you were flying United economy from New York (EWR) to Chicago (ORD) and then ANA economy to Tokyo (NRT), it’s my understanding that you’d still have access to United Clubs at EWR.

United Polaris lounge

United Polaris lounges are the new, nicer United lounges popping up at hubs around the country.

If you have a United Polaris business class ticket, then you may access a United Polaris lounge at departure, connecting and arrival airports along their eligible same-day routing.

No guests are allowed.

So, for example, if you were flying from Chicago to San Francisco and then on to Tokyo, and you were flying this in United Polaris, then you could access the United Polaris lounges at both ORD and SFO.

However, if your long-haul flight is on a Star Alliance partner then the same rules come into effect where you can only access the United Polaris lounge from the airport where your long-haul flight is departing from. In the example above, you’d only get Polaris access at SFO.

United Club Rules

There are quite a few rules that United publishes for their lounges. Here are a few of the rules that I think you should be aware of.

Age limit

Guests must be at least 21 years of age to access a United Club location with a self-service bar, unless accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years of age.

Getting cut off

United reserves the right to refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to any patron who appears to be intoxicated or is otherwise unruly.

Outside food

United states that food may not be brought into United Club locations.

In practice, I’m not sure how strictly this rule is enforced. If you are setting up a full spread of fried chicken from a restaurant in the airport then that might be an issue but if you are just snacking on some items you purchased in an airport that’s probably not a big deal.

There is also a rule that prohibits you from taking food, beverages, and the periodicals from the lounge. Taking a water bottle with you probably won’t be an issue but walking out with a handful of NatGeo magazines definitely won’t be a good look.

Sleeping

United states that sleeping is prohibited in all United Club locations. However if you have arrived at a lounge very early in the morning and there are very few other guests in the lounge you can probably get away with getting some shut eye.

It only becomes an issue in my experience when you have rearranged the furniture and you are taking up seats from other guests or if the staff at the lounge could mistake you for a dead body.

Dress code

There is no stated dress code in the rules. I would advise to try to keep it a little classy but don’t feel the need to dress up for a special occasion.

  • You can read about all of the rules here

Are pets allowed in the lounges?

Service animals are accepted into most United Club and United-operated lounge locations; all other pets must remain in a kennel while in the Club.

Where can I find United Club lounge locations?

Here is the full list of locations taken directly from the United Airlines website as of June 2020. You can go here to view an updated list of all of the United Club Lounges and see what types of amenities are offered at these lounges.

Final word

United Club lounges hard nice places to relax and unwind before a flight or while waiting for a connecting flight. The access rules do get a little bit confusing when talking about partners and the different types of guest policies, but generally you can expect to get more lounge access when you are flying on United’s own metal.

Minute Suites Review (Costs & Hours Explained) [2022]

Minute Suites are a perfect option when you’re exhausted and waiting on your flight to depart or trying to rest between connecting flights.

But what exactly can you expect in these lounges and how can you get access?

In this article, I will provide you with a full review and breakdown of Minute Suites, allowing you to see exactly what to expect in terms of things like cost, hours, and amenities. I’ll also cover how to book these private suites.

What are Minute Suites?

Minute Suites are sort of like airport lounges but distinct in that they consist of a handful of small, private suites that travelers can reserve to get work done, take naps, and freshen up before or between flights.

What can you expect in Minute Suites?

Each Minute Suite may offer something slightly different but generally you can expect the following.

Nice service

So far, I have been pretty impressed with the service I’ve received at the Minute Suites.

Even though the interactions with staff are minimal, the attendants are friendly, polite, and willing to answer any questions which is really all you can ask for.

As soon as you check-in and provide your credit card, they should issue you a key card to your room which gives you in-and-out privileges.

At that point, you probably won’t have any interaction with the staff until about five minutes remaining, when they will come by and knock on your door to remind you to start getting ready to head out.

Quiet and cozy private suite

A lot of travelers come to these suites to get work done or to take a nap so generally you should expect a pretty quiet experience.

In our visits, I found the suites to be very quiet and cozy with just enough space. Some locations such as DFW may have suites with a little bit of extra room.

As far as I can tell, the suites are completely private with no cameras (the only cameras are in the lobby and hallways).

Daybeds

Perhaps the key feature of the Minute Suites is they offer you the ability to take a nap and relax on a daybed. The daybeds will have a pull-out trundle that can be used for up to four people.

Depending on your size, you might find it a bit uncomfortable to fit four people in one suite.

I know that Brad and I felt comfortable with just the two of us and adding another person or two would have made things much tighter.

Your room will likely come with a couple of pillows but you can always purchase pillows or blankets and even other items like alarm clocks, sleep masks, noise-canceling headphones, silk sheets, and facial cleansers if needed.

However, just be aware that these items can be very pricey. For example, a blanket will cost you $50 and a pillow will cost you $25!

Showers

Showers are only available at the following locations:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Near Gate B-24
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport – Atrium
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport – #2
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Terminal D
  • Nashville International Airport Locations (Showers not available)
  • Philadelphia International Airport
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport

You might be able to choose a room that shares a door with the shower at some locations.

Drinks and snacks

Unlike a lot of airport lounges like Centurion Lounges that provide you with free food and drinks, at the Minute Suites you will have to pay for any snacks or beverages.

Your suite will likely have a mini-fridge with different beverages such as water, juices, energy drinks, soda, etc. You also will probably have a basket with a variety of salty and sweet snacks like Pringles and Keebler Cookies.

Prices for these items are not jacked up too high but you will likely be spending around $2 to $3 per item.

Because you provide your credit card upfront for incidentals you can simply take whatever item you would like and it will be charged to your credit card after check-out.

Also, in case you are wondering, you are allowed to bring in your own food and drink. Just remember that you will be responsible for any cleaning fees if needed.

Work station

Each suite should have a proper workstation with an ergonomic chair so that you can get things done and work in peace. There will be power outlets and USB ports located by the workstation and also by the sofa bed.

Minute Suites desk tv

Entertainment

Each suite should have a television screen with entertainment options that include things like an Apple TV or DirectTV. You might also find a smart device such as Alexa in your suite.

Some of these services will require you to login in order to access them but others can be accessed by anyone.

Wi-Fi

Like any good airport lounge, you can expect to connect to Wi-Fi for no additional charge. I’ve found the Wi-Fi speed to be pretty good and when I tested it, the download speed came out to over 90MB per second.

On my last visit, I was able to easily download a few movies to my iPhone without any issues.

Hours

Some of these are open 24 hours a day while others have more limited hours.

Remember that TSA security checkpoints are not open 24 hours so in some instances you need to make sure you will be able to get through security in order to rest.

How to get access

You can get one free hour if you are a Priority Pass member which is how I typically visit the Minute Suites.

Otherwise, you can make reservations online following the steps below. You can also simply show up and get access as a walk-in but there may be no availability during busy times.

How to make reservations

Making reservations is simple.

After you create an account, simply go to the website and select the lounge location you are interested in and then follow the steps to find an appointment.

You will select your appointment type which will be based on the amount of time you will need and that is also when you can select your discount type if applicable.

You can also choose the type of suite you would like since some may offer better sleeping accommodation for multiple people.

You must book a minimum one hour for your reservation and then you can choose 15-minute increments after that.

You can reserve your suite very far in advance.

I had no trouble pulling up reservations for about 16 months out which is a lot further than airline tickets and hotel reservations typically go live.

Also, you can reserve a stay for someone with a different name, including minors. So this could be a very good option for unaccompanied minors.

Canceling

According to the terms, you will need to cancel 12 hours in advance in order to qualify for a refund in most circumstances.

If you do not make your cancellation within that time window then you’ll be offered a credit toward a future stay.

If you were not able to cancel 12 hours prior to your stay because of a flight delay you can get a full refund but you will need to provide verification of your flight delay.

Pets

If you have a pet you can bring them along at DFW but there is a $25 pet fee and that fee assumes purchase of the Lone Star Suite.

Lost and found

Minute Suites will keep records of all found items and will try to contact you if they recover an item from your suite.

You can get it shipped back to you at your own expense but you must claim your item within 90 days or it will be donated or discarded.

Smoking

You are not allowed to smoke in Minute Suites.

Cleanliness

If the staff finds that you have left behind “biohazard material” or “human deposits” they will assess a fine of $1,000.

So if you were thinking about getting “frisky” in these suites I would strongly advise against it.

Not only is it extremely inconsiderate to other travelers who will be occupying your room after you, you could potentially get hit with the cleanup fee.

Minute Suites Cost

The first hour will cost you $48 but if you have Priority Pass this will be free. Then, you will be charged $12 for every 15 minute increment but that rate only applies to the first two hours.

If you would like to stay for two hours, it will cost you $96 and every 15 minute increment after that will cost $9.50.

If you are interested in an extended eight hour stay after 9 PM that will run you $175.

A 30 minute shower will cost $30 but if you have a shower with suite rental purchase, it is only $20.

Discounts

You can qualify for special discounts if you are a pilot, airline employee, or military personnel. Also, if you are a nursing and pumping mother, you can get a 30-minute free stay.
