The Amex Marriott Brilliant is now offering one of the most lucrative offers we’ve ever seen for the card. It’s a welcome bonus worth over $1,000 and one that you may not want to pass one if you have interest in staying at Marriott properties.
This offer expires 5/12/2021.

Welcome bonus
Earn 125,000 points after you spend $5,000 in the first three months
Plus earn up to $200 in statement credits for US restaurants within the first six months
Typically, a 100,000 point offer on the Amex Marriott Brilliant would get folks really excited because that was one of the best offers we had seen.
So with another 25,000 points added on top of that, this is a pretty sweet offer (although the spend requirement of $5,000 is a little bit on the higher side).
The added bonus of $200 in statement credits for US restaurants within the first six months is also a nice addition.
At a valuation of .77 cents per point, 125,000 points comes out to $962 in value. When you add on the dining credits, you’re looking at about $1,162 in value for a bonus.
That is a pretty tremendous hotel credit card offer. Learn how to apply here
Perks and credits
In addition to the bonus, this card is attractive because it is so easy to offset the annual fee every year if you stay at Marriott properties.
The $300 annual credit can be used on room rates which means that if you spend $300 a year at Marriott properties you instantly offset this fee down to $150.
You will also receive a free night award that could be used at Marriott properties costing 50,000 points per night. You can easily get around $300 in value from those type of properties so this card is a no brainer for many people.
If you stay at luxury properties like the Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis you can also get a $100 credit to use on qualified charges when booking a two night minimum stay.
The Marriott Gold elite status is a so-so benefit in my opinion but it is nice to get the annual 15 elite night credits that will help you climb elite status quicker.
Eligibility
The eligibility rules for the Marriott credit cards are pretty complex and a little confusing.
And in addition to those rules, the Brilliant is subject to the American Express once per lifetime rule and other credit card rules like the 2/90 rule.
These rules can be time-consuming to keep up with and so I would recommend that you just use the free appWalletFlo which automates your eligibility for these rules.
Final word
If you are in the market for a hotel credit card and especially a Marriott card, this would be a fantastic time to jump on this card because it is one of the most valuable bonuses we’ve seen ever offered.

What is the $300 Bonvoy Brilliant Credit?
The Bonvoy Brilliant $300 credit allows you to offset select purchases made at Marriott hotels, which includes room rates. This means that you can use your $300 credit to bring down the price of a hotel stay by $300, making this one of the easiest travel credits to utilize.
What other type of purchases can you use the $300 credit for?
You can use your credit for incidental expenses which are things like charges at hotel restaurants, spas, and other establishments within the hotel. However, you need to make sure that the charges are charged to your room and that you charge the purchase to your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card in order for it to apply.
The purchases you make need to be made directly with the eligible Marriott property so don’t think that you can use an online travel agency like Expedia and have this credit work.
The terms and conditions do exclude Marriott gift cards purchased online and also purchases at Homes & Villas by Marriott International home share properties.
When do I receive the credit?
As soon as you open up your card, you will be eligible to use your credit. The credit is issued based on your anniversary year which means that it will reset each year on your card member anniversary date. If you upgraded to the Brilliant card then your anniversary date will likely be set based on the card that you upgraded from. It never hurts to confirm this though.
Can authorized users use the credit?
Both primary cardmembers and authorized users can trigger the credit. However, the primary cardmember and all authorized users will be utilizing the same $300 credit every year so it is a $300 credit across all accounts.
How long will it take for my credit to post?
The terms and conditions state “Please allow 8–12 weeks after the eligible Marriott Bonvoy purchase is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account.” However, in reality your credit might post much quicker than that. If for some reason you never see your credit post then simply call the number on the back of your credit card.
Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.
$100 Marriott Bonvoy Property Credit
In addition to the $300 credit, you can also be issued a $100 property credit (just like the Aspire).
In order to use this credit, you must use comply with the restrictions.
First, you must use your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card to book through www.marriottbonvoy.com or by calling Marriott Bonvoy at 1-800-450-4442.
Second, you must book a two-night minimum stay at The Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis using the Member rate named “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate.”
When you are booking online, make sure that your Bonvoy account is linked to your card account to be eligible to book the rate. Also, if you choose to book by phone then reference the “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate” Member rate.
You need to confirm that you are booking the $100 property credit at the time of booking otherwise you could run into trouble.
Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong Club Lounge.
Something to always be on the lookout is how much more expensive the property credit rate is than an advanced purchase rate. If you are set in your plans and you know that you will not be canceling, then you might want to book an advanced purchase rate. These are going to be the cheapest rates and sometimes it can be worth it to forgo your property credit in order to take advantage of cheaper rates.
You will be eligible to receive a property credit of up to $100 per booking to be used on qualifying purchases on property. The credit will be applied as a credit on your bill whenever you check out. So this is not a statement credit that you should be looking to find on your American Express billing statement.
Are there excluded charges?
This credit will not work for the following charges:
Property fees
Taxes
Gratuities
Cost of the room
The big exclusion here is the cost of the room. Unlike the $300 credit that can be used on room rates, this $100 credit cannot be used on room rates.
Keep in mind that some hotels may also have additional exclusions. If you ever are in doubt, you should just ask the front desk at the hotel and they should be able to provide you with clarification.
Can I use any card when I check out?
In order to take advantage of the credit the terms state that you must use your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card to pay your bill upon checkout.
Can authorized users use this benefit?
Yes, authorized users can also take advantage of this benefit.
How many credits can I get?
You will be limited to one $100 property credit regardless of how many rooms you end up booking.
What if I don’t use my credit?
If you fail to take advantage of your $100 property credit, it will expire at check out and will not be carried over to any other stay. Also, you cannot redeem it for cash or points.
What if I have multiple stays?
Back-to-back stays within a 24-hour period at the same property are considered one stay. So if you make two separate bookings and expect to receive two $100 credits, that is not how this is designed to work.
Final word
These two credits can help offset the $450 annual fee of the Brilliant card down to just $50. Personally, I am a huge fan of the $300 Marriott credit because it can be used on room rates which makes it extremely easy to use. The $100 property credit can be nice as well but it is not as practical or easy to use since you have to book a minimum two night stay at select luxury properties like the Ritz-Carlton.

Last call for two great hotel credit card offers
As you kick off 2021, you still have an opportunity to grab a couple of amazing hotel credit card offers. These offers expire tomorrow so you will need to act quickly if you want to take advantage of these.
IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card
140,000 points after spending $3,000 in the first three months
Up to 25X for spend at IHG
2X at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants
Annual free night certificate at an “eligible hotel”
Automatic Platinum Elite Status
20% discount on purchases of IHG points
4th night free on award stays
Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit of up to $100 every 4 years
No foreign transaction fees
$89 annual fee
140,000 points is a lot of IHG points. I like the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card for people who want to actively stay at IHG properties because it is such a rewarding card.
The card, together with your elite status, can get you 25 points per dollar spent at IHG properties, which is a ton of value. Using a WalletFlo valuation of .56, that comes out to 14% back which is pretty solid.
And you can turn around and use your points to get the fourth night free on award stays which only increases the value. The annual free night makes this card a keeper for a lot of people because it is not that difficult to get well over $100 in value from it.
This offer expires tomorrow (1/13).
The Amex Marriott Brilliant
6X Bonvoy points on Marriott
3X at U.S. restaurants
3X on flights booked directly with airlines
2X Bonvoy points on all other purchases
Marriott Gold status
Free night award
$300 credit
$100 property credit
$450 annual fee
The premium Amex Marriott Brilliant is offering up to 125,000 points. You can earn 100,000 points after you spend $5,000 in the first three months and an additional 25,000 points after your first anniversary. What makes this offer truly special is that you can get free Platinum elite status for 2021.
Platinum elite status will get you some valuable benefits with Marriott like free breakfast and even lounge access. You will also be able to get better upgrades at a lot of properties.
If you’ve never experienced one of the upper elite status levels this is a perfect opportunity to give it a shot. Keep in mind that you would normally have to spend $75,000 on this card to get this perk.
While this credit card has a high annual fee, the $300 hotel credit is extremely easy to use because you can even use it on room rates. This knocks down the annual fee to an effective $150 which can further be offset by the free night award, which can be used for properties that cost up to 50,000 points per night.
If you were ever interested in applying for this card, this would be the time. This offer expires tomorrow (1/13).

Amex Marriott Brilliant Review [2020]
Offers contained within this article maybe expired.
The Amex Marriott Brilliant is one of the top hotel credit cards and a very attractive premium card. It has a high annual fee but it also comes stacked with many benefits that make it easy to offset the annual fee.
In this article, I’ll cover everything you need to know about the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant.
The Amex Marriott Brilliant intro
6X Bonvoy points on Marriott
3X at U.S. restaurants
3X on flights booked directly with airlines
2X Bonvoy points on all other purchases
Marriott Gold status
Free night award
$300 credit
$100 property credit
$450 annual fee
It also helps you choose which cards to use to optimize your points and helps you manage things like your annual fees, credits, etc.
Welcome bonus
The Marriott Brilliant is definitely one of the cards where you want to try to time your application to coincide with one of the higher bonuses.
The standard offer for this card 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months.
A higher welcome bonus comes around every now and again offering 100,000 bonus points although the spend requirement usually goes up to $5,000 in purchases within the first three months.
The 100,000 bonus point offer is fantastic and I would typically try to aim for that offer. But even at 75,000 points, the offer is not bad at all, especially considering all the perks you get below.
Here’s a look at the award chart which can show you possibilities for your points.

Marriott’s award chart.
As you can see by the award chart, it’s possible to get two nights at a category seven property with 100,000 Marriott points. That means there’s a lot of potential for value.
Earning 6X on Marriott is decent for Marriott properties. Using a WalletFlo valuation of .77 cents per point, 6X comes out to 4.6% back.
That’s pretty good but if you have other travel cards you might want to consider using them for optimal point earnings.
For example, if you had the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you could earn 3X Ultimate Rewards which I value more than 4.6% back.
3X at U.S. restaurants
Earning 3X at US restaurants is not that great. 3X Bonvoy points comes out to about 2.31%. You can do much better on dining with a card like the American Express Gold Card which earns 4X on dining.
3X on flights booked directly with airlines
Once again, 3X Marriott points on flights booked directly with airlines is only about 2.31% back. I would much rather put airfare on a card like the Sapphire Reserve or the Platinum Card which earns 5X.
2X Bonvoy points on all other purchases
Finally, earning 2X on all purchases comes out to about 1.5% back which isn’t horrible.
Tip: Use WalletFlo to help you know which cards to use in order to maximize your points on different purchases!
Hotel perks
Marriott gold status
The Marriott Brilliant will offer you automatic Marriott Gold status. Gold status is not quite what it used to be because it no longer offers benefits like free breakfast.
This opens up a lot of possibilities for some of the top luxury brands and allows you to get a lot of potential value out of this perk.
$300 credit
One of the best benefits of the Marriott Brilliant is the $300 Marriott Bonvoy Statement Credit. This credit can be used on a wide variety of purchases, including room rates. So you basically get a $300 discount on Marriott properties.
This is probably the easiest way to offset the annual fee because if you have only $300 worth of stays planned at Marriott properties each year, you can essentially knock the annual fee down $150.
You can also use the credit for incidental purchases but you need to make sure that those purchases are charged to your room and that you charge the purchase to your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card.
$100 property credit
There’s also the $100 property credit but this credit is a little bit more restricted, meaning that you have to jump through some hoops to use it.
In order to receive the $100 property credit you need to use your Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant and book through www.marriottbonvoy.com or by calling Marriott Bonvoy at 1-800-450-4442, for a two-night minimum stay at The Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis.
You’ll have to book the member rate called the “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate.”
For each booking you’ll be issued a $100 credit for eligible purchases which will include things like spa treatments, dining, etc.
15 elite night credits
Each year, you will receive 15 elite night credits. These credits will help you climb to higher elite levels without having to make actual hotel stays.
Here are the requirements for Marriott elite status.
Silver: 10 to 24 nights
Gold: 25 to 49 nights
Platinum: 50 to 74 nights
Titanium: 75 to 99 nights
Ambassador: 100 nights + $20,000 U.S. dollars in qualified annual spend
So 15 qualifying elite nights would get you only 10 nights away from Gold status.
Tip: If you have a business Marriott card, you can combine the 15 elite night credits for a total of 30 credits. So you can achieve Gold status just by holding two Marriott cards!
The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant will offer you some additional travel benefits to make your travels more convenient and enjoyable.
Priority Pass Select
Priority Pass Select is a membership that will get you access to airport lounges located all around the world. In fact, there are over 1,200 of these lounges scattered around the globe.
This membership is probably worth somewhere around $400 a year so it’s a very valuable membership.
The ShopRunner program offers the following benefits from select retailers:
Free two-day shipping
Free return shipping
Specials deals and discounts
Normally you would have to pay $79 per year for this perk so this could be a nice savings of about $80 for some people.
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant protections
Purchase protection
The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant will protect your purchases for up to 90 days from the date of purchase if the item is stolen, accidentally damaged or lost.
The coverage is limited up to $10,000 per occurrence, up to $50,000 per Card Member account per calendar year. This $10,000 limit is super competitive and one of the great perks of the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant.
Return protection
If a merchant will not take back an item, you can return the eligible purchase up to 90 days from the date of purchase and get coverage up to $300 per item for a maximum of $1,000 per calendar year.
If your trip is delayed 6 hours or more, you can get coverage for up to $500 for the delay. Some of the trip delay protections don’t kick in until 12 hours and limit you to only $300 so this perk is pretty solid. You can use these funds for necessities like lodging, meals, and toiletries.
Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
You can get covered for trip corruption and cancellation for up to $10,000 per occurrence.
Baggage Insurance Plan
You can get covered for up to $2,000 for checked baggage and up to a combined maximum of $3,000 for checked and carry-on baggage.

But hotel credit cards are also getting in on the action.
The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant and the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card are offering two extremely appealing offers that have special value we have not seen before. If you were ever looking at getting a hotel card, especially a Marriott card, this would be the time to seriously consider applying for these.
Below, I’ll break down why these offers are so valuable and give you some insight into the type of value that you can expect to get from them.

Update: Offer no longer available
There are two reasons why you would want to seriously consider applying for the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant right now.
The first is that you can get instant Marriott Platinum status for 2021 with this card thanks to this limited time offer. (The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant normally offers you Gold status which is not worth nearly as much as Platinum.)
Marriott Platinum status is not easy to obtain (it requires 50 nights) and it is a solid elite status because it will grant you perks like free breakfast and guaranteed lounge access.
Here’s a look at all of the Platinum benefits:
50% Bonus on points
Complimentary room upgrade
Welcome gift
Guaranteed Lounge Access
4pm late check-out
Annual Choice Benefit

The second reason to pick up the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant is that the welcome bonus is solid.

$95 annual fee
If the annual fee for the Brilliant card is too much for you then you might want to seriously consider the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless.
Update: Offer no longer available
Right now, the the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless comes with a pretty insane offer of five free nights for the welcome bonus. What is even crazier is that the free nights can be used on properties up to 50,000 points per night which means that you could effectively get up to 250,000 points for the bonus!
That is just unheard of.
We put together an article on Marriott properties going for 50,000 points per night and you will be pleased to know that you can stay at some very luxurious properties for that amount of points. These properties would include brands like the St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, W, etc.
If you planned to optimize your stays at these luxury properties, I could see you netting easily over $1,000 in value from this welcome bonus with a potential of getting closer to $1,500 or more. Learn more on how to apply here!
Final word
We’re seeing some extremely generous credit card offers roll out every week it seems. These two Marriott offers are definitely some of the most noteworthy offers we’ve ever seen from Marriott. It’s pretty clear to me that the pandemic has caused hotels and issuers to get a bit creative and more generous so these offers may not ever return as things start to get back to normal.
