Southwest is offering a very special offer to some lucky California residents. The offer allows you to earn the Southwest Companion Pass after making a single purchase in addition to 40,000 Rapid Rewards when you spend $1,000. That’s about as easy as it gets, so if you live in California check your inbox.
Update: Some offers are no longer available — click here for the latest deals!
The only thing I don’t love about this offer is that it expires November 30, 2017.
This means that you will earn the Companion Pass for the rest of 2017 and all of 2018 (see the official terms below which confirm this). That might sound like a great deal but when you consider that you could earn the Companion Pass all the way through 2019 by getting two of the Southwest cards and hitting 110,000 Rapid Rewards, you can see why some may just want to hold off from this targeted offer.
The Southwest cards did just drop from 60K but we’ll likely see the high offers return in a matter of months, so I think it would make sense for many people to wait until the 50K or 60K offers return and simply pass on this offer. Keep in mind that these Southwest cards are subject to 5/24 so many people will not be approved for these cards even though they were targeted.
Southwest has been on a mission to compete more in the West Coast markets. They recently offered A-List status matches to many in California and now they’re offering this ultra-lucrative offer. Remember, that there have been many rumors swirling that Southwest is on the verge of announcing its first flights to Hawaii. It could be any day when the official announcement comes and flights to Hawaii will likely be a great way to cash in on value with the Companion Pass.
