American Airline Flights As Cheap As 5,000 Miles

I am a huge fan of interactive maps and one of the most handy maps out there for awards is the American Airlines award map. It’s a great tool that allows you to punch in how many miles you have to spare plus your origin location, and it will show you all of the destinations that you can fly to with that many miles or perhaps a little bit more miles. It’s very handy and now you can use it to find some super cheap flights.

Flights as cheap as 5,000 miles

Right now, presumably due to coronavirus worries and concerns, you can find a lot of routes for as cheap as 5,000 miles one-way.

Simply go to the map and then input your origin airport and select “more options” so that you can choose one way flights. (You might be able to utilize the round-trip search feature but I found one way flights a lot easier to locate the cheaper flights.) Input your departure date and then just select search and see what comes up.

The darker pins on the map are the routes that fall within your price range. So if you selected 5000 miles then the darker pins should require a maximum of 5000 miles. There should also be some lighter pins that show up and those might be more expensive like 6,000 to 10,000 miles.

It looks like the savings are mostly limited to economy flights so I don’t think you will be able to cash in on a lot of business class flights though it never hurts to give it a shot.

Also, while many of these rates are for the next 30 days or so there are some discounted rates as far out as the summer and early fall so if you have travels a little ways out you might be able to capitalize on these discounts.

Final word

If you’re not overly worried about the coronavirus right now then you can jump on some very cheap flights across the country. Being able to score a round-trip for 10,000 total miles is pretty awesome and this could be a great way to stretch your points especially since award inventory should be pretty open due to decreased travel. Keep in mind that the cash prices are also falling so in some cases you may just want to pay cash for these routes and save your miles for later.
