New York sees decline in new cases and deaths for first time

It seems like we might be starting to slowly turn the corner in the world’s current epicenter for the coronavirus crisis.

For the first time the number of deaths and new cases has dropped in the state of New York. Also, of the 122,000 residents that have been infected, about 75% of them that required hospitalization have now been discharged.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said it’s too early to know the data’s significance, though.

In other words, they want to wait until they have more data points, probably a few more days, before they decide on if this is going to be the new trend.

They also don’t know what will happen after they reach the apex of cases and deaths. For example, it could be a gradual or a steep decline from there but it is still too early to tell.

Some of the popular models had New York peaking in another week so if New York has already started to see a decline in new cases, they would be ahead of schedule by almost a week which would be a very encouraging sign for not only New York but the rest of the country as well.

But we still have a rocky road ahead of us, especially over the next week or so.

In fact, the US Surgeon General warned that this will be “the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans’ lives.” He even referenced that this will be along the lines of Pearl Harbor and 9/11. In other words, it’s going to be tragic.

Still, we are getting close to the apex of this crisis for the country as a whole and once we pass that we can focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though many people will still be losing their lives and getting sick, it will be very encouraging to see infection rates decline in states all around the country as we start to gain control over the spread this virus.
