One of these days, somebody needs to make a Netflix special about the 2020 stimulus deals.
If you haven’t been caught up on the latest stimulus drama, here’s your Sunday evening recap.
Last week, after a lot of progress in the stimulus negotiations, Pelosi requested a response from the White House on several issues of contention.
Reportedly, the Treasury Secretary did not respond to these issues and Pelosi sent him a letter at around midnight while also publishing it to the press.
(Because nothing builds trust like publishing a letter to someone in the national media after midnight.)
Understandably, Mnuchin took this as a political stunt and wrote back, “Your ALL OR NONE approach is hurting hard-working Americans who need help NOW.”
And now, well let’s just say it does not appear that the two are on the best of terms.
Considering that these two were the primary individuals involved with the negotiation talks, it’s definitely not a good sign that they appear to be having some serious issues with each other.
At this point, there are only a couple of days before we will likely know the results of the election and so there is no chance of an agreement happening before the election.
With these relationships deteriorating and the election about to happen, it’s possible that emotions could be running too high and worsen the existing relationships that are already on shaky ground.
This would likely result in a postponed stimulus deal even though many lawmakers have expressed that they would like to get one figured out by the end of the year.
So as of November 1, 2020 we have extremely mixed signals coming from top officials and a little bit of drama mixed in.
In short, things don’t look very good if you were hoping for something to happen before the next inauguration day.
We could always get surprised but I’d say it’s pretty doubtful at this point.
