It is always a smart idea to get familiar with the baggage fees for an airline before you ever book your ticket. That is because some airlines, such as Frontier and Spirit have hidden fees that can catch you off guard and require you to pay a lot of money just to transport simple carry-on items. Other times, the baggage fees are much clearer and there’s not any surprise.
In this case, Aeromexico baggage fees fall somewhere in between. They are pretty standard for the most part but they do have a few quirks that are different from most major US airlines which could make some US passengers get a little bit caught off guard.
In this article, I will break down all of the baggage fees and special weight requirements for different types of luggage and show you what fees you can expect to pay.
Table of Contents
What are the Aeromexico baggage fees?
Aeromexico baggage fees are pretty standard and when it comes to flights between Mexico and the US it typically allows for one free carry on, one free personal item, and your first checked bag starts at $30.
But they do have an interesting policy for personal items and carry-on items. Many airlines have one standard size requirement for carry-on items and personal items, but Aeromexico allows you to bring on bigger/heavier carry-on items depending on your fare class.
The baggage fees also will be different depending on the regions that you’re flying to and from. Below, I will break down all of the different weight and size requirements for the different classes.

Aeromexico carry-on & personal item rules
Most airlines have one size requirement for carry-ons. However, Aeromexico allows you to bring on different size carry-on and personal items depending on the type of ticket that you’ve booked. As I mentioned before, the baggage fees will change depending on the regions that you are flying to and from.
In this example, I am going to use flights between Mexico and the US as an example.
Main Cabin
You are allowed one personal item and one carry-on. The total weight allowance is 22 lb/10 kg max for both pieces and each piece can measure up to 21.5 x 15.7 x 10. The size requirement is roughly equivalent to what other airlines allow such as Alaska Airlines.
NOTE: Many airlines do not publish a weight requirement for personal items and carry-ons, so don’t get caught off guard if you are asked to weigh your items. If you regularly pack out a backpack with lots of items, then 22 pounds might not be enough for you so pack smart.
Remember, the weight allowance is for BOTH pieces of luggage.
Clase Premier
For business class, you are allowed heavier personal and carry-on items. Your carry-on can weigh up to 39 lbs/18 kg max and the size dimensions can measure up to 21.5 x 15.7 x 10 inches (55 x 40 x 25 cm). This is a significant upgrade in weight since the weight requirement only applies to your carry-on item. 39 pounds is a lot of weight for a carry-on.
As for your personal item, They can weigh up to 6.6 lbs/3 kg max. Examples for personal items include: hand bag, briefcase, laptop case, backpack, camera, electronic device, etc.
It’s not clear to me how strict Aeromexico is about these weight and size requirements for carry-on and personal items.
| Baggage Allowance | Weight Allowance | Dimensions |
---|---|---|---|

Club Premier, Delta/SkyTeam, & Cardholders
If you hold elite status or you are an Aeromexico card holder then you can have additional savings for your baggage fees. Note that you can get free checked bags if you have elite status with SkyTeam partners, such as Delta since Delta Gold will get you SkyTeam Elite Plus status.
Once again, the type of savings that you have will depend on the regions that you are flying between. For flights between Mexico and the US and Canada here are the savings you can get:
- Club Premier Gold/Platinum/Titanium, Elite and SkyTeam Elite Plus members: Fee waived for first bag of up to 50 lbs/23 kg in Main Cabin and 32 kg/70 lbs in Clase Premier.
- Platinum American Express Aeromexico cardholders: Fee waived for first bag of up to 50 lbs/23 kg in Main Cabin and 32 kg/70 lbs in Clase Premier for all flights operated by Aeromexico and Aeromexico Connect, when ticket is purchased with card, and card is presented at check-in.
- Santander Aeromexico Infinite card: Fee waived for the first bag in Main Cabin of 23 kg or 32 kg for Premier.
Aeromexico checked baggage fees
Main Cabin
You are not given one free checked bag. Instead, you will have to purchase a checked bag starting at $30 dollars per bag. If you need to purchase more than one checked bag, the prices will increase as you bring more bags. Here are the prices for the extra luggage bags:
- 2nd piece = $55
- 3 pieces = $180 each
- 4 – 10 pieces = $200 each
The weight allowance for these bags is 50 lbs/23 kg max with maximum linear dimensions of 62″(158 cm). If your luggage is going to exceed that weight, then the prices for oversized baggage below will apply.
Clase Premier
You will be allowed to bring two free checked bags. The weight allowance for these bags will be 70 lbs/32 kg max with maximum linear dimensions of 62″(158 cm). This type of baggage allowance is pretty standard for business class.
Aeromexico oversized baggage fees
If you need to check oversized luggage, the amount in fees that you pay will depend on how heavy your luggage is and also how long it is.
Here are the fees for overweight luggage:
- 100 USD (23.1 – 31.9 kg)
- 200 USD (32 – 45 kg)
If you are checking a bag that exceeds the allowed size dimensions then you will pay $150 dollars per bag.
Keep in mind that these are the fees for flights between the US and Mexico.
If you want to see an entire breakdown of all of the prices for the different destinations, then here is a chart with data supplied directly from Aeromexico.
